Can You DoorDash in Another State? I Tried!

DoorDash is a popular food delivery app in North America, allowing people an opportunity to earn some additional income. But, what if you’re in a quiet area and are curious about dashing in a different state or city?

Good news: You can dash in various states or cities. This flexibility can potentially help you increase your DoorDash earnings.

Let’s dive into how you can alter your DoorDash location and some tips to maximize your profits.

Can I Dash in Another State?

Absolutely!

If DoorDash operates in a certain state or city, you’re free to dash there. But keep in mind, there are limits.

For instance, if you registered for DoorDash in the U.S., you can’t deliver in Canada, and the same rule applies the other way around. Also, there might be times when certain areas are too packed with dashers, making it impossible to dash there.

DoorDash splits delivery regions into zones, as you probably know.

Whenever you’re ready to dash, just launch your DoorDash app. If a zone appears red, as you can see in the screenshot above, then you’re good to go and can start delivering in that area. On the other hand, a gray zone indicates it’s currently overcrowded, so you’d need to pick a different, active zone to start your delivery tasks.

How to Change Your DoorDash Location

If you find yourself in a location not too far from your last dashing point, you can simply hit “Dash Now” or set up a future dash in the app, without tweaking any settings.

However, if you’re feeling adventurous and want to dash in a place entirely new, a bit far from your recent dashing site, there’s a straightforward way to update your location in the app.

Here’s how…

When you’re ready, open your Dasher app and select “Dash Now”. A prompt will pop up, asking if you’d like to dash in this new place. By choosing “Okay”, you’ll update your dashing zone and can start your journey.

But what if the area you’re in isn’t ready for dashing (it’ll appear gray)?

You’ve got a couple of choices.

You can either be patient and wait for the “Dash Now” option to light up in that area or you can head over to a nearby zone that’s active (these will show as light pink or red). Once there, tap “Dash Now” and approve the pop-up to change your dashing location.

No matter where you are, you will see zones pop and activate based on where you are.  There’s nothing to do on your part.

In the past, you had to ask support, but this is no longer the case.

Final Thoughts

In the end, you can dash in another state, and this can be a smart choice, especially if you’re from a small town with few active zones. It’s a great method to earn while traveling or even as you journey across the country.

However, just like with other gig apps, it’s crucial to monitor your mileage and costs. This ensures you can determine if Dashing in a new place is profitable for you.

Dashing in various states and cities might boost your hourly earnings.  Your results will vary.

That’s going to do it for now.
