If you’re a fan of shopping at Kohl’s, then you probably already know about the multiple coupons offers they send you, especially the peel away stickers sent directly to your mailbox.

Now, you may be wondering how the heck can you get your hands on a 40% off Kohl’s mystery savings coupon?

I was wondering the same thing, so I decided to look into it and was able to figure a few things out.

In today’s post, I wanted to explore 5 ways to potentially snag a 40% Kohl’s coupon code.

How to Get a Kohl’s 40% Off Coupon Code Today

Know That It’s Temporary

It seems as if Kohl’s is ALWAYS offering a 10%, 20%, and 30% coupon, and while this can be true, know that the 40% off coupon is only offered during certain promotional periods, which usually last one or two days.

So while I would want to say I can give you a promo code right now, there could be a good chance it won’t be active or even available anyways.

Being temporary, Kohl’s picks and chooses and it seems there’s no set time they will offer the coupon throughout the year, so I’m going to show you some simple tips as to how you can be alerted when the coupon is available.

For example, in 2018, here’s when Kohl’s offered either printout and/or coupon code for online shopping:

• 9/22/2018 and 9/23/2018 ONLY
• 10/21/2018 ONLY

These are just a few of the dates I found, but if you look at this Google Trends chart, you can see when the coupon was available when the lines peaked.

Take Advantage of eBay to Guarantee a 40% Off

Sometimes, when a Kohl’s 40% coupon is readily available, it will be a unique code and/or a printed coupon that you need to take into the store.

And while you may not get one, it doesn’t mean you can’t find one.

Here’s where eBay comes in.

Aside from getting the coupon from Kohl’s, eBay is a goldmine for ANY coupon.

Seriously, you name a retailer and there’s probably someone selling a coupon.

And the great thing about it is that you can snag one for a few dollars, even after paying shipping fees.

So if you know Kohl’s has a 40% off coupon RIGHT NOW, then I highly recommend you search eBay as soon as possible to buy one to save.

Just make sure you add it up and ensure it financially makes sense.  It would be silly to pay $8 for a coupon when you’re only saving $10 after using the coupon.

Set a Google Alert

As you probably know, the Internet is already filled with HUNDREDS of freebie/deal websites.  Some good, some bad, of course.

If you don’t feel like searching for a Kohl’s 40% off coupon every day since we already know it’s going to be random, then I recommend you create a Google alert.

To do so you will want to head to Google.com/alerts, and in the box at the top, simply type “Kohls 40% off.”

Click “create alert” and anytime Google gets a match, you get an email.

Honestly, this is the easiest way to take advantage of a 40% off coupon, and remember, if you do see one is available, act fast because they only tend to last a few days at most.

If you’re unfamiliar with Slickdeals, then I HIGHLY recommend you download the app and bookmark the website right now.

By far, this is the best daily deals website that works in a community manner.  Seriously, there are hundreds of amazing offers on here, and I personally never purchase something unless it’s on Slickdeals.

And the reason I’m mentioning Slickdeals is that, like Google, you can set alerts here as well.

BUT the greatest thing about this is that one someone creates a forum thread, many people will often trade or sell their Kohl’s 40% off coupon if they have one.

And if you have something they want, it’s a great way to trade and take advantage.  Or if they are selling, most ask for $1 or $2 — not bad if you’re going to save 40%.

To create an alert on Slickdeals, it’s just as easy as Google.

First, the obvious — create a free account and then confirm it.

Then, once logged in, click on your name in the upper right-hand corner if you’re using the desktop version, as seen here:

If you haven’t done so already, I highly recommend you sign up for the free Kohl’s Yes2You account, especially if you shop at Kohl’s often.

First-time app downloaders and users often get a sign-up bonus AND you earn one point for every dollar spent.  Once you hit 100 points or $100 in spending, they add $5 to your account.

Now, the great thing about signing up for an account is that the company will alert you when a potential 40% off coupon is available inside of your app.

Here’s the thing, though…

Like the coupons in your mail, they will ask you to “reveal” your mystery savings, which could be 20%, 30% or in this case — 40%.

So even if you get an account, you may not get the 40% guaranteed.  Other savings can be had, however.

Sign up with Kohl’s Deal Alerts

It also appears you can just sign up for a basic Kohl’s sales alert account if you don’t care about the rewards.

And based on the past 40% off coupon offers, Kohl’s e-mailed these accounts, letting them know about the deal.

It’s free to join and doesn’t hurt if you just want to stay in the loop.

Tips to Keep in Mind

Get Even More Cash Back

I highly recommend downloading the DOSH app to get even more cash back on the purchases you already make.

This is how it works…

Simply link a credit card to your account, and in doing so, the app often gives you $5.

Then, whenever you use that card at one of the retailers on the list, either online or in-store, you get the percentage back.

Kohl’s does show up from time to time, but regardless, it’s an awesome app to have as it’s one of those “set it and forget it” apps to help you really pile up the savings!

Just swipe your card as you normally do and receive up to 10% cash back in your DOSH app.

Codes Probably Won’t Stack

If you shop online with Kohl’s, they apparently allow you to stack up to four online coupon codes when you make a purchase.

However, in the case of using a 40% off coupon, there’s a good chance they will not let you stack it, so be prepared based on past experiences.

Based on the information I found in the past, the 20% and 30% codes often stack, but most did not have luck with the 40%.

So if you have one, plan on saving the 40% and that’s it.

Be Aware of the Limitations

You may be thinking, “Cool!  I can get that TV I always wanted at 40%.”

I hate to break it to you, but there are often some limitations as to what you can and cannot use.

While Kohl’s is usually pretty generous with their coupons, the 40% usually doesn’t work on many electronics, such as the Fitbit, and name-brand apparel like Nike.

Just read the fine print before using it to make sure you know what you can and cannot use it on.

Kohl’s Coupon Code Generators are Worthless

In the past, some people said you could have luck using what’s known as a “Kohl’s coupon generator.”

And this so-called “generator” would work by generating random coupon codes which were said to give you a valid 40% coupon code.  You would simply refresh the page until it worked.

Yes, this DID work in the early days of Kohl’s promo codes, but like anything, they quickly caught on and closed that loophole.

If you see people mentioning this tip, it’s best to ignore it as there’s a 99.9% chance it won’t work.

Plus, even if you did get it to work, you may risk Kohl’s canceling your account based on fraudulent activity.

One Time Use Only

Even if you “think” you found a 40% off coupon code online, do keep in mind that each code will be UNIQUE.

And unless you lucked out, once the code is used, it will no longer work.

In conclusion,  40% off Kohl’s promotional codes will ALWAYS be unique, so don’t plan on searching and finding one.

Works with Clearance

From fellow Kohl’s shoppers, it does look as if you can use your 40% off coupon on clearance items both online and in store.

So even if you see something that’s 80% off, use the coupon to save even more.

Final Thoughts

The Kohl’s 40% off coupon will not be available 24/7, and as much as I would like to give you a code, it’s only going to come at random times AND only be active for one or two days based on the past offers.

In the end, I highly recommend you sign up for the Kohl’s app if you haven’t done so already, followed by the Slickdeals and Google alerts.

In doing so, there’s no reason you won’t miss out on the potential deal.

And then, even when one is available, either buy one on eBay or if you’re lucky enough, use the code if you were able to get one!
