How To Make Money off of Land Right Now

No matter how much land you own, you may be able to turn what land you have into some decent cash.  How much greatly depends on what you pursue and how much land you have.  Of course, the more land you have, the more you can make.  The same can be said about the time invested.

In today’s post, I brainstormed and researched a few ways you can consider making money with your land, as well as some links to reputable resources to get started.  As there are a lot of ways to make money off your land legitimately, just make sure you know of your local laws before starting, as some can be considered as a business.  I don’t want to see you get into any legal/financial trouble.

As in all of my posts, I’m always 100% honest, only promoting what works and what’s legit.  So, with that being said, let’s jump and see how you can make money with the land you have.

How To Make Money off Land

Rent Out Plots of Land for a Community Garden

Community gardens are a hit, no matter where you live.  Oftentimes, urban dwellers, as well as those without land, rent out plots of land to have their own garden.  Not only are you helping the community, but you’re putting money in your pockets as well.  List your opportunity on Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist or even spread it word of mouth.

Grow and Sell Flowers

Learn the flower market and start growing.  Then, either find ways to distribute to local retailers and/or sell at a local farmers market.

Grow Fruit and Sell It

Like flowers, selling fruit can be a viable option at your local farmers market as well.  As all climates vary, research your local fruits to see what does best throughout the year.

Lease Out Your Land to Hunters

If you have enough acreage and hunting is legal in your area, you may be surprised as to how many people will pay you to hunt your land.

Lease Lands to Bee Keepers

If you have enough land, beekeepers may want to use your land to make honey and help keep their hives healthy.  To find a beekeeper who may need your land, refer to LeaseHoney.com.

Build Horse Stables

Do you have enough room for horses to roam?  Building stables may be a wise investment as owners will easily pay hundreds to board their horses, sometimes much more, depending on your area.

Grow a Garden

Pick out some produce that you feel you’re good at growing.  If you don’t know where to start, start with something easy and go from there.  Depending on your area, you can grow a lot throughout most of the year, even if you live in a harsher climate.  Sell what you don’t want at a local farmers market.

Grow a Herb Garden

This is a much easier option if you don’t want to worry about a full-fledged garden.  Selling herbs is another thing you can sell at a local farmers market.

Raise Chickens to Sell Eggs

A dozen eggs can easily sell for a few dollars.  Count on each chicken laying about 250 eggs a year, which is about 20 dozen per year.  If you sell for $5 each, that’s $100 a year per chicken.  Do the math and you can see these numbers quickly add up.

Raise Worms

Raising worms for bait and/or compositing can be a lucrative side job for most.

Pet Sitting

Offer your pet sitting services on websites such as Rover.com.  Pet owners tend to favor pet sitters with land since their pet can roam much more than it would in an apartment or smaller suburban yard.

Indoor or Outdoor Storage

Vehicle, RV and boat storage can get expensive, but you can offer a cheaper option.  As long as your land is safe and customers feel safe, it’s one to consider. The same can be said about indoor storage if you have garage space.  Just check with your insurance before considering.

Hold a Wedding/Event

Rent out your land to soon-to-be bride and grooms or even a large event.

Create a Solar Farm

Did you know that creating a solar farm can be profitable?  Building one can take up to 12 months, but it can be a great way to make a passive income. Usually, solar companies require at least 30+ acres, but they all vary.  Check out this article to see how you can start a solar farm on your property.

Start a YouTube Channel

Do you do anything interesting on your land?  If so, consider documenting it.  Go one step further and link out to a website where you can share more detail about what tools you use, etc.  There’s a lot of money to be made here.

Sell Firewood

Depending on your land, you could chop and sell firewood by the bundle.  This tends to do very well in local campground/tourist areas.

Rent Out a Campsite

Campers don’t always want to stay at a campground.  If you have a few spaces you feel would make a wonderful camping site, list your property on Hipcamp and make $xx a night.

Grow Pumpkins

Pumpkins are relatively easy to grow and can bring in a decent amount come Halloween time.  Advertise on Facebook Marketplace, etc to sell.

Plant a Vineyard and Make Wine

This can take some time to learn, but it’s not that hard to learn.  A vineyard can offer scenic views and let’s not forget the tasty wine you made.  That’s a successful feat in itself.  If you get big enough, you could turn your enterprise into a full blown shop, including a wine tasting room.

Sell Forest Timber

Harvesting timber is another lucrative way to make some cash almost immediately.  How much it’s worth greatly depends on a few factors, but the U.S. Forest Service made it easy to determine what it may be worth.

Sell Parts of Your Land

As a last resort, consider selling a portion of your land.  It can be tough to do, but honestly, it’s one of the fastest ways to raise cash quickly.

Outdoor Advertising

Does your land border a busy road, especially a highway?  If so, you may want to reach out to outdoor advertising billboard companies, as they may want to lease the land from you.  This is one of the best passive income options on the list.

Mineral Rights

If you own the mineral rights to your property, you can sell or lease these for cash if interested.

Final Thoughts

That wraps it up.

I tried to cover as many options as possible.  Yes, some options may take some work; however, I feel the investment could have a decent ROI.  There are other options that you can start right away if that’s what you’re looking for as well.

As always, if you want to add to what I have already written or recommend some more ideas, you’re more than welcome to use the comments section below.
