Whatever the reason may be, there may come a time when you need to pay someone with a credit card because you have no cash on hand.

So, the question is, “Can you pay someone with a credit card?”

Yes!

As long as you have a smartphone that can access the Google Play or iTunes platform, then you’re in luck as the options I’m about to mention can help you accomplish this task.  And, the best part is that you don’t have to pay an ATM fee.

Just simply download one of the many apps mentioned below, add your credit card and then send the cash off to your recipient.  Keep in mind that in most cases, the person you’re sending the money to often needs the app as well.  But, since they all work differently, I will be sure to explain how each one works below as this isn’t always the case.

NOTE:  Keep in mind that if you do decide to use your credit card, most of these apps will charge you about 3%~.  However, these fees are waived if you use your bank account or debit card instead.

Cash App

The Cash App is probably one of my favorite apps on the list.  It has more than 10,000,000 downloads and is probably one of the most popular apps of its kind on the Google Play/iTunes platform.

Can you pay someone with a credit card on the Cash app?

Yes!

If you were to download the app, you can add cash and then send it to anyone, however, there is a slight fee.  But, if you use a debit card, there are no fees at all.  Whomever you’re sending the money to must have the Cash App as well, but don’t worry, it’s 100% free to download.

Aside from being able to send cash to family and friends, you can also add “boosts” to your cash card, which they send to you for free.  These boosts can help you save a certain percentage at participating retailers and restaurants.

I’m sure you have heard of PayPal before as it’s one of the oldest platforms on this list.

Can you pay someone with a credit card on the PayPal app?

Yes!

If you already have an account, consider downloading the app as it makes it much easier to send someone money in person.  You can send cash to others with a credit card, but you will have to pay the convenience fee, about 2.9%.  Sending with a debit card or your bank account, however, can save you on the fees.

The other person does need a PayPal account.

Venmo

Venmo is slowly becoming a household name, and just like the Cash App, the person you’re sending cash to must have the app as well.

Can you pay someone with a credit card on the Venmo app?

Yes!

The app is 100% free to download, but you will need to pay a small fee if you were to add cash to the app from a credit card.  A debit card is free, however.

With the Venmo app, you can get your money fast, often in minutes, when you use the Instant Transfer option.

Final Thoughts

Granted, you can pay people with other popular apps such as Apple Pay, Google Pay and Zelle, however, these options only allow you to pay via a bank account/debit card.  Keep those reputable options in mind as well if you choose to use a debit or bank account.

If you want to pay someone with a credit card, it can be done as long as you have a smartphone.  Just remember that if you choose any of the apps I mentioned above, your recipient will need the app as well to make it work  Also, don’t forget to factor in the credit card fees since most of these apps charge about 3%.  These fees, however, are waived if you decide to use a debit card.
