If you’re looking for a website that pays you to complete microtasks, similar to that of Amazon Mechanical Turk, then you may want to check out a website called Remotasks.  It’s a microtasking website that pays people like you to complete short tasks and have paid out more than $15 million in payments since opening. Being considered as an independent contractor, you can work whenever you please and technically make as much as you want, as long as jobs are available.

Now, the thing with Remotasks if that you won’t get rich.  In fact, you will be lucky to come close to your country’s minimum wage, but this can be said about a lot of these microtasking-like websites.  Let me repeat this.  You won’t make a ton of money doing this.  Picture it as a way to make a few dollars on the side.

Whether you want to know more about Remotasks or maybe you want to find other ways to make money online, I built this guide to let you know what Remotasks is all about.  As always, 100% honest.

Joining Remotasks

To join Remotasks, you need to be at least 18+ years old, fluent in English, and the company is open to almost everyone worldwide, however, there are some restrictions as to countries that cannot join.  According to the website, they are open to 90+ countries.  Of course, you will need a laptop or PC as well to complete most tasks.  A mobile phone isn’t advisable since a lot of tasks won’t work.

To get started, you need to continue with either your Facebook or Google account, and this is the only way to sign up at the moment.  If you don’t have either one of these accounts, you can always create one for free.

Keep in mind that when you do sign up, you should see a message that tells you that all new accounts are reviewed to ensure high quality.

This process can up to 48+ hours and you will receive an email with the next steps to get started.

How Remotasks Works

Remotasks is very easy to learn.  You will want to head to what’s known as the training center after you get approved and complete as many courses as you can.  These courses will take a few minutes and it’s highly advisable you take as many courses as possible to unlock as many tasks as possible.

Whenever you complete a course, you will need to take a quiz so that you comprehend what you just learned. If you don’t pass, you will have to take the course again.

As for the tasks you complete, it can include some of the following:

  • analyzing content
  • annotate text
  • categorizing
  • gathering data (emails, addresses, etc)
  • identify spam
  • transcribing audio
  • transcribing text in an image
  • label objects in images and videos
  • annotate 3D data

Much like MTurk, each task will have a varying degree of difficulty as well as the pay.  You will find that some will only take seconds and pay pennies, whereas other tasks can take upwards of a few minutes but it will be much more.  If you’re familiar with MTurk, the tasks will be very similar.  What I found is that the “3D tasks” end to take the longest, but they pay the most.

Most of the tasks you perform will help build a “better and smarter AI.”

Remember, to start completing particular tasks, you will have to pass a course to be approved, and some of these courses can take a long time.  This seemed to be one of the bigger frustrations amongst people using the platform.

As you complete these tasks, you will be given an accuracy score by the provider, which can increase your earnings at 100%.  If you’re 100% accurate, you will receive full pay; however, if you’re only partially accurate, you will only receive part of the pay.

How Much Does Remotasks Pay?

As mentioned, how much you make will greatly depend on the task you’re working on as well as some other factors.  On average, expect to earn $0.01 to $0.20 per task, and how much you make will depend on how fast you work.

If you were to complete one $0.15 task per minute and you could complete 45 in an hour, let’s say, that’s only $6.75 per hour.  This is just an example and your results will greatly vary, but this is on the higher end.

From what I read, earnings are all over the place, but the average user seems to earn about $75 to $150 per month with very minimal effort; however, the average hourly rate is very low around $4 or so.

Again, keep in mind that you won’t make a ton of money with any of these microtask websites.  If you live in the United States, you will be quite frustrated, however, if the U.S. dollar can go much further in your country, then you may enjoy the pay.

When Does Remotasks Pay?

All payments are sent to your verified PayPal address and payments are sent out automatically every Thursday, no matter what you make.

One downfall is that they do take a 2% processing fee, but the best part is that there’s no minimum.  So, if you only earned $0.25 for the week, they will send you a payment.

Just make sure you add your payment details when you first start to ensure you get paid on Thursday.

The Pros:

  • very easy to use
  • PayPal
  • no minimum
  • lots of tasks
  • support seems to be helpful
  • large community worldwide
  • seems to be great for users in some countries

The Cons:

  • pay is low
  • have to take training courses
  • low accuracy scores = lower pay
  • only PayPal
  • no mobile tasks
  • need Facebook or Google account to sign up
  • can’t join immediately
  • some tasks are confusing

Final Thoughts

7/10Remotasks is 100% legit and I think it can work great for some people who live outside of the United States.  If you’re happy with $4 to $7 per hour, maybe a bit less or even more, then I say at least attempt it. It’s a learning curve, but once you find the tasks that work for you, the earning potential can be okay; however, I won’t use it. The neat thing is that you can choose the tasks you want to work on and you can work whenever you please, seeing you’re an independent contractor.

As long as you know you won’t get rich, it can be okay.  It’s a nice change of scenery from your typical money-making ventures online, such as surveys, offers and watching videos.  This opportunity will offer much more and some of the tasks can be interesting.

Again, if you live in a country where $3 to $6 USD is a lot per hour, then you will benefit much more than someone who lives in, say, the United States, Canada, etc.

That’s going to wrap it up.

  • Hi, I tried creating a Remotask account in Canada, and I was able to do this by using my phone number. However, I haven’t been able to verify my account using my valid ID card compared to my American counterpart. Is there any way you can help?
