Best Apps to Sell Makeup (Even if Used)

Whether you have makeup you tried and regret purchasing or new in the case, there are a variety of platforms out there that allow you to sell it, even if it’s used. Yes, even if you sampled it, you can still get most of your money back if you’re not able to return it to the store.

In today’s post, I wanted to talk about the many platforms that allow you to sell your makeup and other cosmetics for that matter. Many of these I have mentioned before, but I can promise you that all of these websites I am about to mention are 100% legit.

How to Sell Used Makeup From Home

Glambot

If you search for selling makeup online, one of the first results you may see is a company by the name of Glambot.

In short, Glambot allows you to sell both used and new makeup, all without having to deal with anyone as they buy your makeup directly from you. All you need to do is request a label, ship your makeup and you get paid if you accept their offer.

If you’re interested, they do ask that you send at least 15 full sized, qualifying items that are listed on the approved brands list. As they are strict in what they accept, it is so important to see what they are willing to buy before shipping your goods in.

And, if you’re on the fence, consider using their estimator tool right on the official website to see what you could make. No, you won’t make as much as selling it on your own, but it’s a nice option if you just want to ship your makeup in and be done with it.

Poshmark

Poshmark is one I have mentioned a few times, such as in my apps like Wish and how to sell your wedding dress posts. It’s a very popular app, known as one of the better places to sell your clothes. While it’s one that focuses primarily on clothes, you can sell your makeup, from blush to bronzer to brushes and tools. Be sure to check out the website to see what you can sell as there are some restrictions.

If you’re not familiar with the site, it’s very easy to start selling your makeup. All you need to do is list it, simply by taking a photo with your phone and then wait for a seller once it’s live. Generally, as long as you’re descriptive with what you’re selling and you take great photos, you shouldn’t have a hard time selling as long as it’s in demand.

Poshmark has simple fees as they take a flat commission of $2.95 for orders under $15 or 20% of the sale if your item sells for more than $15.

I highly recommend you check out the company’s FAQ as they have a ton of answers to the questions you may have.

Mercari

Mercari, known as the selling app, works just like Poshmark, only that it’s not as popular.

To start selling, all you need to do is add some photos and add a description. Once you set your price and it’s live, you can ship it off once it sells. You do this either via the highly-rated app or your desktop.

All listings are 100% free, but if your item does sell, they do charge a 10% minimum fee.

Mercari allows you to sell just about anything, including makeup, but to always be safe, refer to the FAQ to be sure it’s legal.

Facebook Marketplace

Don’t forget about the power of the Facebook Marketplace.

The nice thing about this option is that you can sell locally, and in many cases, you don’t have to meet up if you don’t want to. In some cases, you can ship off your makeup or even leave it on your porch for someone to pick it up. You just have to make sure you’re dealing with someone honest, of course.

If you do go the Facebook Marketplace route, it is free, but just make sure you’re comfortable with the selling method as it’s much different than the many mentioned here.

Facebook Groups

Aside from the Facebook Marketplace, consider joining a Facebook Group that focuses solely on makeup selling, trading and/or buying.

To find these groups, simply head to your group tab and search for “sell makeup” or “sell makeup + your city name.” Chances are you will find a variety of groups that allow you to do so. All groups are free to join and only takes seconds to do. Just make sure you’re joining one that’s filled with hundreds of active members. There are a lot of idle groups that won’t be worth your time.

Once you join, just be sure to read the rules as they all vary before you attempt to sell your makeup. The last thing you want to have happen is to see yourself get banned.

eBay

Don’t forget the dinosaur, eBay. While it’s still popular than ever, it’s not my number one choice as there are many other options, as you can see.

You can’t sell used makeup on eBay, but if you have new makeup, it’s one to consider, simply due to the number of people who use it.

eBay fees are average, usually about 10% of your final price.

Reddit

If you’re familiar with Reddit, then you may be well aware of the many subreddits that cover virtually any topic. If you can think of it, there’s a subreddit to talk about it. Picture it like a forum of sorts, where you can discuss it among your peers.

The reason I bring up Reddit is that they offer a very popular “Makeup Exchange” subreddit. Here, you can exchange makeup you no longer want or sell it if need be. The system is confusing in comparison to the many options I mention here, but they do offer a FAQ to get started.

This particular subreddit has more than 128,000 members, so this means a lot of eyeballs. The thing I like is that it’s free to post, but there’s a lot more risk involved.

Final Thoughts

Whether you want to sell your new/used makeup or you want to offload some makeup you found on clearance, all of these options are 100% legit and have hundreds, if not thousands of buyers who may want your product.

Before you sell, however, just make sure you take good pictures, you’re honest in your descriptions and you’re competitive with your price. Of course, it helps to have makeup that people want as well.

As always, if I’m missing any options and/or you want to comment on the options I did mention, you’re more than welcome to sound off in the comments section below.
