Beta Family Review: $5 to $20 per App Test

Beta Family is a crowd testing community for beta testing either iOS or Android applications.  Developers use this service to get real people, such as yourself, to test the app and then offer their honest opinion.  It’s a privately held company formed in 2013.

If you like the idea of getting paid to test apps about to hit the market, then this may be an opportunity to consider.

In today’s review, I talk about a company named Beta Family.  They have more than 667,000 testers with more than 15,000 companies in their database.  There’s no doubt the company is legitimate, but as in all of my reviews, we need to determine if it’s worth your time.

How Beta Family Works

On the platform, an app developer will create a test, letting you know exactly what’s expected of you in the directions.

For example, some developers may just ask you to test the app and provide your feedback whereas other developers may have specific instructions such as playing a specific game level and taking screenshots of your progress.  Every job is different, but you will always know what’s expected of you in the directions as mentioned.  Just be sure to read the directions before accepting to know what’s expected of you.

After you complete your work, you submit it, in which your developer can accept or reject it.  If they do accept it, then you’re rated and rewarded with the amount specified.  The better your ratings are, the more likely you are to get tests in the future since developers can specify that they want higher rated testers only.

Signing Up

If you’re interested in becoming an app beta tester, then you can sign up via this link.

To sign up, they ask for your name, email and a password so that you can log back in to check on current job opportunities.  You can also connect your Google or Facebook account if you wish to bypass the email option.

After you enter this information, the company will then want to know a bit about you, such as where you live, your gender as well as when you were born.  They also want you to register any devices you may own so that they can match you with the appropriate studies.  For example, if you only own an Android device, then you won’t see any iOS tests, etc.

This entire process takes about three minutes.  Once complete, you can then access your dashboard immediately.

Dashboard

Immediately after you sign up, you can gain access to your dashboard, which will look something like this:

As you can see, the dashboard is fairly straightforward.

The main link you will want to pay attention to is the “find apps” link.  This will take you to the most current projects.  Aside from following that link, you can also browse your main dashboard screen, where you can see the more current jobs.  For example, if you see the “TikTok” test, that is one you can apply to.

Once you apply to a test, you can then see them by clicking on the “my tests” tab.

The Tests

When you click on the “find apps” tab, it will look something like this…

To find a beta test, you can browse by categories or you can simply browse through what’s available.

In each beta testing preview, you can see a simple description, the testing dates, which device it’s for as well as the reward.

So, let’s take that first example, the “Brunch – Social Recipes – Test.”  That is a test that’s paying $35 to test.  If I were to click on it for more details, I could learn more about this opportunity.

In this case, I would have to write down feedback for every screen I came across.  I would have to leave my thoughts, both good and bad, as well as find a recipe I’d like to cook.  In short, I had to leave feedback for every interaction.

As long as I met the requirements and the project sounded like something of interest, then I could apply.

Applying does not automatically give you the job.  The company will need to review your application before you get accepted.

Rating System

If you were to get accepted and complete the job, then the company will either accept or deny the job.  In the case they do accept your job, then they will rate your work, which will promote you as a tester.  The better your rating is, the better your chances at getting a job are.  This is how most beta testing sites work.

Generally, as long as you follow and fit the requirements specified in the test, you shouldn’t have a problem.

If the company were to reject your work, they can often ask you to revise your work before they deny it.  Again, this only happens if you fail to follow directions.

Payouts

Once you earn at least $50 in rewards, you can request a payout.  When this happens, a payout button will be shown on the page.

When you request a payout, it can take up to 30 days to receive your cash.  Unfortunately, this is quite high in comparison to other competitors.  It isn’t a deal breaker, however.

All payments are sent via PayPal and there are no other ways to get your cash.

How Much Can You Make With Beta Family?

From my experience, most beta testing opportunities pay anywhere from $5 to $15+, however, you may find jobs paying as much as $35.  Usually, the higher the payout, the more work you will have to do.

The better your ratings, the more test invites you can receive, which means more cash.

As a whole, expect to earn about $30~ per month if you were to aggressively use the website and get good ratings.

Final Thoughts

7/10Beta Testing seems to be okay.  I don’t think you will make a done, but $10 to $30 per month seems doable, as the company has a lot of jobs available.  I would say they have more than average jobs in comparison to competitors I have reviewed in the past.

Yes, the company is legitimate, and they will pay you if you do complete jobs.  The only downfall is that you need $50 to cash out, which is higher than average.

In the end, at least check it out.  It only takes minutes to join and you can start applying within a few minutes.  Worst case, if you don’t like what you see, you can always close your account.

That’s going to wrap it up.

As always, if you want to comment on Beta Family or what I have already written, you’re more than welcome to comment below.
