If you’re looking to share your opinions and earn some rewards, you might have heard of SurveyLion. It’s a platform backed by Canadian Viewpoint, a big name in Canada for gathering people’s thoughts. This fact alone tells us that SurveyLion is a trustworthy place to visit.  But being legitimate and safe doesn’t automatically make it the best use of your time.

They offer rewards for your insights, which sounds great at first. However, the catch is that the chances to earn aren’t as plentiful as one might hope, and they don’t offer much flexibility in how you can receive your rewards.

Finding the right survey site can feel like searching for a needle in a haystack with so many options out there. SurveyLion is among those options, and you might wonder if it’s the right fit for you.

In today’s post, as in all of mine, I dug deep into what SurveyLion has to offer by comparing it to numerous other survey sites I have explored. This review hopefully gives you a better idea as to whether or not it’s worth your time.  As always, I’m 100% honest and only recommend what I feel is worth your time.

Who Can Join?

When it comes to SurveyLion, figuring out who can sign up can be a bit puzzling. The site mentions that anyone 16 or older can join from anywhere around the globe. But here’s where it gets tricky…

During the sign-up process, you’re asked to provide an address and phone number in Canada. This detail seems to contradict the open invitation to global participants and could potentially cause confusion down the line, especially when it’s time to redeem your rewards with a check.

In theory, as long as you’re 16, you can register by selecting Canada as your country, regardless of where you actually live. However, this approach seems impractical and might lead to complications later on, particularly with payment. Essentially, SurveyLion appears to be most suited for Canadian residents. But even for those in Canada, there are arguably better survey platforms out there that could offer more value for your time.

Regardless of your location, there are other sites offering more frequent opportunities and better conditions for participation.  Just keep that in mind.

Paid Surveys with SurveyLion

SurveyLion mainly focuses on giving you paid surveys as a way to earn a little extra. And, this approach makes it pretty straightforward to use. If you’re just starting out with online surveys, you should find the platform easy to use. Even though its design might feel a bit old-fashioned, it’s been updated to look more current. Yet, it might not be as sleek or user-friendly as some other survey sites out there.

When you sign into SurveyLion, you will see a list of surveys you can take. However, it’s important to note that the number of surveys available might not be as large as you would find on other sites. Sometimes, you might log in to find no surveys waiting for you at all. But don’t let that discourage you. It’s just a matter of checking back later to see if new surveys have popped up.

The surveys that do appear tend to offer decent compensation for your time. But since there aren’t surveys available all the time, SurveyLion might not be your go-to if you’re looking to earn significant amounts regularly. Sites like Swagbucks offer more daily opportunities to earn, making them potentially more lucrative.

One convenient feature is that SurveyLion sends out email invitations for new surveys. This means you don’t have to keep logging in to check for new surveys. But keep in mind that these invitations might not come as frequently as you’d like.

Refer Your Friends

Apart from taking surveys, SurveyLion offers another way for you to earn some money by inviting your friends to join.

If your friends sign up and actively participate, you will receive a bonus for each one. At the moment, this bonus is $3 for every active friend you refer. It was $5 previously, but the amount was adjusted down to $3 after a website update.

For your friends to be considered active, they need to complete at least one survey or try to take at least three surveys, even if they don’t qualify for them. This requirement isn’t too hard to meet, making it a feasible option for your friends to help you earn that bonus.

However, this referral program does have its limitations. You can only invite friends through email, which means you can’t just post a referral link on your blog or social media. Plus, this opportunity is only available for those living in Canada. You’re also limited to referring a maximum of 15 people every week.

While these restrictions mean you might not earn a lot through referrals, it’s still a nice little extra if you have many friends in Canada who you think would be interested. Just remember, you need their email addresses to invite them, so keep that in mind if you’re considering this option to add a bit more to your earnings on SurveyLion.

How Much Will I Make?

Let’s talk about the cash you can make with SurveyLion.

Honestly, you won’t be filling your bank account to the brim here. It’s an okay place to earn a bit of extra money, but when you stack it up against other survey sites, it doesn’t throw as many chances your way.

Survey taking isn’t a path to wealth, that’s for sure. However, pick the right surveys, and you could snag yourself a nice little side hustle for some extra spending money. Just don’t count on SurveyLion to be your golden goose.  I would say you’re lucky to make a few dollars a week.  Again, it’s okay for a survey site, but it’s definitely not one of my favorites.

Getting Paid

When you earn money on SurveyLion, whether by completing surveys or inviting friends, your earnings are stored in your account in dollars. One of the perks of SurveyLion is that you don’t need to reach a certain amount before you can withdraw your money. This means you can request your earnings even after just one survey. However, it might not be the best idea to request a payout right away, and here’s why.

SurveyLion pays its members through checks. If you’re thinking about requesting a payout after earning just a small amount, like $1, it might not be practical. Receiving a check for such a small amount doesn’t make much sense, especially when you consider the effort and time it takes for the check to arrive.

The fact that SurveyLion only pays by check is quite limiting. It’s a bit disappointing, especially when you compare it to other survey sites that offer payment through PayPal or other faster, more flexible methods. After a significant update to their website, it’s surprising they didn’t improve their payment options, which still feels outdated.

But, if you’re okay with receiving payments by check, this system might work for you. Just remember, once you request your money, there’s a bit of a wait. If you ask for your payout before the start of a month, your check will be mailed out on the 15th of that month. Then, you’ll need to wait a bit longer for the check to physically reach you.

So, while SurveyLion offers the convenience of no minimum payout threshold, the process of actually getting your money is not the fastest compared to other survey sites.

The Pros:

• Backed by a reputable company
• Rewards are generous for the time invested
• No minimum payout required

The Cons:

• Limited opportunities available
• Eligibility for joining is kind of confusing
• Payments are made via check only
• The site is not optimized well for mobile users
• Experiences of wasting time due to disqualifications or technical issues highlight some frustrations

Final Thoughts

In the end, SurveyLion stands as a legitimate platform where you can earn some extra cash. It’s backed by a reputable company, offers decent rewards for the time you invest, and notably lacks a minimum payout threshold.

And, although the absence of a minimum payout and the reasonable rewards per survey are pluses, these positives are somewhat overshadowed by the overall user experience. The fact that payment is only through checks, combined with the limited survey opportunities and poor mobile optimization, makes SurveyLion less appealing.  It’s the reason why I won’t recommend it like the other sites I often do.

If you’re in Canada, SurveyLion might be an additional option to consider, but it’s hardly the best choice out there. There are plenty of other survey sites offering more and better opportunities, along with more convenient payout methods.
