When you think of making money watching videos online, one of the biggest names that pop will be Hideout.tv. Yes, this a legitimate company that will pay you to watch TV; however, it doesn’t mean that it will be worth your time.
This is a rewards platform that gives you the ability to earn money by simply watching videos in almost any genre and then redeeming these points for a myriad of rewards, from cash to gift cards. All you need to do is watch the content for a certain amount of time and you will get rewarded for every minute you watch.
Keep in mind that watching videos online does not pay much. In fact, I do not recommend it all. I’m only writing this review because I want to show you how little these apps tend to pay.
What is Hideout.TV?
Hideout.TV simply pays you to watch videos on the app/website, and you can only choose from a variety of genres, such as recipes or nature. Honestly, 99% of what I looked at seemed to be very lame in quality and it would be hard to watch it for longer than a few minutes.
The screenshot above, for example, is just a sliver of what you could see on your dashboard. As you can see, you can choose from a variety of topics, from celebrity news to adventure. In clicking these options, it will take you to the videos currently available and you can start to watch whatever seems of interest to you. Like YouTube, you will just click on the video and watch it until it ends. Again, you can see that the quality is all that great.
Earning Points
To start earning points on Hideout.tv, you need to be logged in at all times so that they can log your time. And, for every ad you view during the video, you will earn varying points, usually around 3 points on average. For example, if you actively watch with the sound on, you can earn about 3.3 points per ad, but you can earn even more if you use the FireTV app, sometimes up to five points. You must watch ads to start earning points, and the actual content video will not reward you.
What you’re going to find is that these ads will start playing before you watch the video, and these advertisements will be based on your geographical location. If you don’t see an ad, then that doesn’t mean there’s a campaign in your area and you won’t get paid. Again, ads equal money. If there are no ads being shown, you’re wasting your time watching a video if you’re doing so to earn money.
Once you earn enough points, you can then cash out once you link your account to one of the company’s loyalty partners. This is up to you as to who you want to link to, but they do seem to work with a lot of third-party providers, many of which I have recommended. GrabPoints or Earnably, for instance, are companies you can link to.
Whenever you link out to a company, you will then have your points transferred there, in which you can then cash out for a variety of rewards.
Getting Paid
When it comes time to get paid, you can choose from a few options.
For one, you can link your account to a third-party site, such as GrabPoints, etc. If you’re already a fan of a survey/offer-type site, then it may be wise to link your account so that the points go there. This can be a perk as these sites can often more rewards than Hideout.tv can. You can link as many companies as you want but you’re only able to transfer your points to one company at a time. These companies always change, but you can see a full list whenever you log into your account.
Depending on where you link and transfer your points, the conversion rate will vary. Let it be known that it’s not one point equals one point in most cases. Instead, it will be a fraction of this. What I recommend you do is check out the various conversion rates to see which one is going to make more sense.
If you want to cash out strictly through Hideout.tv, then you can do so, and it seems like the rewards are quite good. Redemption starts at $1 and you can choose from a variety of rewards, from Amazon to Walmart and much more.
Amazon and Target seem to be the lowest redemption threshold at $1, but most other gift cards start at $5.
How Much Can You Make?
This is going to depend on how often you watch videos and which reward you’re looking to cash out for.
If you were to want a $1 Amazon gift card on Hideout.tv, it will cost you 1,150 points. If you were to watch an ad every 30 seconds, you could earn maybe 10 points per minute. That’s 600 points per hour. If you do the math, you can plan on earning $1 per 2.5 hours, on average. As you can imagine, this isn’t going to be worth your time, at least in most countries.
Signing Up for an Account
If you do like the idea of making $1 watching two hours of videos (I don’t), then you can sign up, either on the desktop version or through the phone app.
The great thing is that they are open to more than 40+ countries, so there is a good chance they will accept yours. To see which countries are available at the moment, refer to this list.
To get started, all you need to do is provide your email address and confirm it. You must be at least 13+ years old to join.
The Pros:
- lots of reward options
- easy to use
- some videos may be entertaining to some
The Cons:
- very low paying
- ads not always available
- sometimes doesn’t give out points
Final Thoughts
3/10Ask yourself this: Are you happy making $1 for every two hours you watch videos? If you’re shaking your head yes, then sign up, as this is what you’re going to make. You could make more if you refer your family and friends, but this isn’t going to increase your earnings greatly. While the premise sounds awesome and you can make money watching videos online, it just isn’t much. As long as you understand this, you won’t be frustrated when you watch your points balance build as you watch videos.
In the end, I found the videos to be boring and the points system to be ridiculous. I’m not going to sit around for an eternity to make $1. I think I could make this faster by looking for change on the ground.
That’s going to wrap it up for now.
