How To Make Money Online for Beginners [Free List]

If you’re looking to make money online and you’re considering yourself as a beginner, don’t despair, as there are many ways you can start earning money right now without any experience.

And, if you have never been here before, you can be rest assured that everything I promote is 100% honest, 100% ethical and almost guaranteed to make you some sort of cash as long as you follow the rules.  You won’t find garbage products I’m promoting for hundreds of dollars nor will you find hundreds of ads.  I don’t work that way.

So, if you’re a rookie and you want to make money online, it can be done.  Just be warned that there are a ton of options, most of which I will try to cover below.

How To Make Money Online for Beginners

Take Surveys

As a warning, you will not make a ton of money with surveys.  I’m talking $5 or maybe $10 a day.  This is okay for some, but not for others.  I just want to put it out there.  This is an option I want you to consider because it’s one that can make you money now.

If you’re happy with the idea of making $5 in a day, then consider it.  However, if you’re looking for much more, then I say move on the list, as there are many more options.

In the survey world, there are many survey companies, many of which I have covered here.  But, if you want to know of my true favorites, it’s definitely Swagbucks, Quick Thoughts, Survey Junkie and Superpay.me, to name a few.  I play around with these options on occasions and easily make $100~ a month doing so.

It’s as easy as signing up and then answering the survey questions to get compensated for your time.  Most surveys pay about $0.25 to $4+ each.

Complete Offers

This one is similar to that of surveys as you can get paid now, but what I like about this opportunity is that you make much, much more.  I’m talking up to $150+ per task.

Now, the problem with this, however, at least for some, is that you need to invest some of your money to come out ahead in the first place.

Let me explain.

In the past, there was this bank offer if I were to open up an account and invest $150, I would get $100 from Swagbucks.  It would take six weeks for the money to post, and I needed to transfer my $150 to a new account.  I didn’t lose money, per se, but I needed to let it sit in this new account for the six weeks to qualify.

Another time, there was a company that would pay me $75 if I placed a $25 minimum order for the first time.  So, in doing this offer, I came out $50 ahead plus I was able to get an item.

Not all offers will require an investment, though.  Some, for instance, may only require that you sign up and give an email.  In this case, they may pay you $1 in doing so.

Completing offers are a great way to make money here and there.  If interested, check out the powerhouses in this industry such as Swagbucks and MyPoints.  I have found that they pay the most for offers.  You can also check out my get paid to complete offers guide if you’re interested in more opportunities that work like this.

Freelance Writing

There are many ways to make money writing online, and no, you don’t need to be a college graduate nor do you need years of writing experience to thrive.  Instead, what you will find is that there are a lot of online companies that hire beginners to help them create basic articles.

The great thing about these platforms is that they provide the work and you get to choose what you want to write.  The work doesn’t pay much, maybe $0.01 to $0.03 per word, but it’s enough to get your feet wet in the industry.  Once you prove yourself to some clients, they will be willing to pay more.  You can also use this as a stepping stone to better opportunities in the future if you find yourself enjoying the writing experience.

If interested, there are more than 17+ companies hiring entry-level writers.  Be sure to check out the list if this is something of interest.

Write eBooks

In today’s technological era, you don’t have to find a publishing partner to publish your book.  Instead, you can write a book right now and then publish it directly to Amazon as an eBook.

All you need to do is write it, format it and then upload it.  Once you name your price, it’s on the market and it’s a great way to collect a passive check.

This option won’t make you money right away, but if you can market your book right and market it to the right crowd, then there could be potential.  You just need to figure out if there’s demand.

Tutoring

This option is best suited for you if you love working with kids and teaching a subject you love.  Most online tutoring companies ask that you have at least a four-year degree, but this isn’t always the case.

What I found in my research over the years is that online tutoring companies often want math and science tutors.  These seem to be the highest in demand, but other subjects work as well.  Nonetheless, if you’re proficient in a topic, it’s an option to consider.

If you’re interested, check out the more than 20+ online legitimate tutoring companies.  The great thing about these platforms is that you can set your rates and work on your own schedule, seeing you will be considered an independent contractor.

Teach Music Online

Good at an instrument?

If so, you may want to help someone learn virtually through companies such as TakeLessons and LessonFace.

Here, you can set up a profile and wait for incoming students to contact you if they are interested in your profile and instrument.

You get to set your rates, availability and what you want to do.  The only downfall, however, is that you will have to market yourself, which means you may be waiting a while before you see your first customer.

Freelance on Fiverr

I love Fiverr because it’s a marketplace that offers virtual services for just about anything.  If you can do it online, you can sell it on Fiverr.

Whether you want to design logos, write content or even dress up and sing a song, there’s something you could do to make a few dollars in your spare time.  Heck, you may be able to turn this opportunity into a part-time or even full-time job.

Fiverr allows you to start today and instantly throws your job listing in the search results, making it easy for potential clients to find you.

What I recommend is you at least check out the site and see what people are doing.  Hopefully, this can spin up some ideas to help you become a successful freelancer online.

Amazon Mechanical Turk

Whenever I’m bored, I sometimes find myself tinkering around on the MTurk platform and making a few dollars.  The cool thing is that there are almost always 1,000+ jobs available.

And, if you’re unfamiliar with it, this platform is operated by Amazon (yes, the one you’re thinking of) and was designed to help individuals and businesses connect with a plethora of people who can perform thousands of short tasks.

As a turker, you will log into a dashboard and browse through a massive list of jobs, most of which will take you 30 to 60 seconds to complete.  It can range anywhere from finding someone’s email address to categorizing a picture.  There are a lot of job opportunities.  They don’t pay much but seeing you can complete 20 to 50+ in an hour, you can make upwards of $10 or much more.

This isn’t a platform designed to make you rich, but many do earn $20 to $40+ in a day, sometimes much more.  You get to work whenever you want and choose the jobs you want.  Just make sure you complete the job as specified as the platform does rely on a ratings system.

To learn more about it, refer to my HITs worth turking for guide as well as how to make $50 a day.

Start a Blog

This one will take some time to see results, but it will have the most potential.

In short, your goal is to pick a website topic and then research keywords to see which keywords drive in the most traffic without a lot of competition.  There are keyword tools to help you.  Then, once your posts rank, you can make money via display ads, such as Google AdSense, or you can link out to third-party merchants that give you a cut of the commission.

I won’t be able to explain how it works in detail in this post, as it would take a book to do so.  Instead, I will point you to some of my favorite free resources online:  Income School, Authority Hacker, Backlinko, Quick Sprout and the Ahrefs Blog.

Starting a blog has endless potential and you can make as much money as you want.  It just takes a lot of work.

Create a YouTube Channel

This is similar to that of a blog, but it won’t require a lot of writing.  Of course, you can do both, combining your website with a YouTube channel, but it’s up to you to decide what’s best for you.

Starting a YouTube channel is easier than ever, and best of all it’s free to do so.  Just use your Google account and start uploading videos once you’re ready.  And, as to what kind of videos you should upload, that’s dependent on you.  I would take the same approach as the blog, thinking of a topic and branching from there.  If you stick with it and grow your channel, then you can start to make money through Google’s AdSense and even via third-party partnerships.

It’s another option that will take a lot of time and hard work, but it’s an option anyone can consider doing to make money online.

Create a Podcast

What if you don’t want to write or create videos?

Well, how about creating a podcast?  Again, podcasting will take some work as you will have to gain a subscriber base, but it’s another way to earn money, mostly through sponsorships.  The more people who listen, the more you can make.

Take the same approach with YouTube or websites, where you create a topic and then create episodes based on “keywords.”  If you’re entertaining enough, who knows where it could take you?

Test Websites and Apps

Testing websites is just as it sounds.  You will help a developer test out a website or app and then report back your findings in a report, usually in audio form.  For example, you may be asked to visit an online store and act as if you were to buy an item.  You will then be asked about how you felt about the shopping experience.  You will be given directions, and I find the work to be very easy.

These jobs often don’t pay much, maybe $5 to $10 each, but it’s a way to make some money online.  Don’t expect to make a living doing it, however.

There are a variety of these types of sites that work with thousands of reputable companies, which you can find here.  Sign up for all of them and there’s no reason you can’t have a few jobs to complete every week.  It’s 100% free to join.

Sell Stuff

This one will make you money much faster than the other options mentioned, but why not go around the house and see if you can sell anything you have no use for?

It could be anything from a broken iPhone to even LEGOs.  There are a lot of great platforms you can use online, such as the Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist, where you can sell virtually anything (as long as it’s legal), or you can work with a company that will pay you almost instantly.  For instance, Decluttr will pay almost any type of electronic off you and offer you an immediate quote.  It won’t be the highest if you were to sell it on your own, but it does bypass the stress of dealing with the public.

Depending on what you have to offload, I don’t see why you can make at least a few hundred dollars by the end of the week.

Final Thoughts

If you’re a beginner and you want to make money online, it can be done.

Some of these options allow you to earn money right now, whereas other options, such as a blog or YouTube channel, could take months before you see your first dollar.  As long as you have that drive and patience, then I say anything is possible.

If you’re a rookie, don’t let the online world scare you.  Yes, you can make money.  You just need to know how to as well as how to be aware of the scams.

I feel this list is a great starting point, but of course, there are many other ways to make money online that I may have missed, and that’s why I leave the comments section open.  As always, if you want to add to my list or comment on what’s been mentioned, feel free to do so below.
