Perk.tv Review: Can You Really Make $238 a Month?

NOTE:  Perk.tv is now closed.  Post is left up for archive purposes.

Perk.tv is said to be the #1 mobile rewards program that rewards you to watch TV, one of the many of its kind online.

Seeing it’s quite popular, I really wanted to dig deep and explore it in full detail as I always do in my reviews.

Should you join?

Is it worth it?

These are all of the questions I honestly answer in all of my reviews.

So, if you have been thinking about joining Perk.tv, strap in and let’s dive in to see what it’s all about.

What is Perk.tv?

Perk TV is an app/website that allows you to watch endless videos and get rewarded for your time.

Yes, it’s as simple as it sounds.  Open a video, watch it and get rewarded for your time.

From my initial research, these videos, which are commonly movie or app trailers, last about one to two minutes, and once they complete, you will earn what’s known as “Perk Points,” in which you can then cash out for a variety of rewards, such as gift cards and even PayPal cash.

The great thing about it is, however, that you can allow the trailers to run and you can get rewarded for hours without having to lift a finger, truly making is a passive income opportunity.  Many people online often let videos run while they are working or even buy phones to let the videos run to earn a ton of points since you can use more than one device per account.  It’s probably one of the best passive apps from my initial research.

Aside from watching videos, you can also complete offers, enter sweepstakes and partake in daily activities, all of which I will get into later in this review.

For now, let’s jump and explore the entire system to see how it works and if it’s worth it.

Perk.tv Review – Can You Make Money Doing Nothing?

Signing Up

To start using Perk, you will first be asked to sign up for an account, which shouldn’t come at a surprise as all websites need you to create an account to keep track of your progress.

The website is open to all US, UK, CA and AU residents as long as you’re 18+.  Sadly, if you live outside of these countries, you will not be able to sign up.

To sign up, it was extremely easy, and you could choose from one of two options — either via connecting your Facebook account or using your email.  It’s really up to you what you want to do.

Whatever way you choose, it only took me 30 seconds to get started and is 100% free to join.

Your Dashboard

Once you sign up, you can then access your dashboard, which will look something like this:

As mentioned, Perk TV focuses primarily on watching videos, so right on your dashboard, you will get to immediately choose which video you want to watch.  The screenshot above was via the desktop version and will look a pinch different on your phone app.

The nice thing about it is that they do let you choose a category if you so choose, so if you like celebrities, you could watch celebrity only videos, but if you were more into news topics, then you could watch those videos instead.

The dashboard is extremely simple to use, and most of your time will be spent either on this main page or on the “popular videos” section if you want to see what other people are watching.

How Much Can I Earn Watching Videos on Perk?

This is the burning question:  How much can you earn watching a video?

From playing around with the website, it appears you will make about four points for every two videos you watch, with every point worth about $0.0007~ each, sometimes much more.  I will get into this later.

If you look in some of the sections, you can see what it will pay you before it even starts, such as this:

VideoFox, for instance, would pay you 12 Perk Points for 20 minutes, whereas the new Emoji Movie trailer will pay you five points if you watched it.

Now, the cool thing about Perk is that they continue to show you videos and you don’t have to keep clicking, which means it’s truly a hands-off approach.  Simply open a video, let it play and you’re going to earn points for every two videos you watch.

How to Make a Passive Income (make $200+ a month)

From what I read, some people will let the videos run 24 hours and can make about $1.50~ a day in doing so.  This is per device.

Now, before you laugh, you have to remember that it’s really a set it and forget it approach, however, you will be asked to confirm that you’re still watching the videos every three to four hours.  Just keep this in mind to ensure the videos continue to run.  If you fail to do so, then the videos will stop and you will not get paid.

Even if you earn $0.50 a day, that still adds up to about $15 a month doing nothing per device.

Now, the cool thing about Perk is that you can run up to five devices on your account, which essentially means you can make upwards of $7.50 a day or up to $230+ a month if you were to operate five phones/tablets/computers at once.

If you have more than one device and don’t mind using it, then the numbers really do add up.

The Daily Task Options

Aside from the main dashboard screen, wherein you can earn Perk Points watching TV, Perk offers additional options as well, all of which can be found in the “Rewards” tab.

Inside the rewards tab, you can find the “daily” tasks, which as you guessed it, can earn you points every single day.  If you’re serious about earning money on this website, it doesn’t hurt to complete the six daily tasks to earn even more.  It’s optional, however.

Here’s  what’s offered and how it works:

Daily Slideshow!

Click through the slideshow to earn a special reward at the end.

When I did it, I had to view 10 websites that were timed, so you really can’t click through them fast and will have to wait.  Each slide lasted 45 seconds.  It was quite long, to be honest!

Daily Scratch!

To play the Daily Scratch game, you will be asked to download the separate “Perk Scratch & Win!” app.  It’s similar to that of Lucktastic and Lucky Day if you’re familiar with them.

On this app, you can pick a scratch card to play and exchange the points/tokens you earn for a variety of prizes.

Every day, you can scratch 10 cards.

Daily Watch!

Daily Watch! lets you watch 10 videos and works no different than the main page.

The only difference, however, is that it counts towards your 10 videos for your daily reward.

Daily Watch! Live

To earn points in the Daily Watch! Live section, you will be asked to check into five TV shows for the day.

You will need to use the app to check into the shows you’re currently watching on TV to earn points while you watch.

So, if you’re watching TV, make sure you turn on the app to play along.

Daily Viggle!

Daily Viggle! is no different than the Daily Watch! Live section, only that you will be asked to download the Viggle app, its sister app.

Daily Promotion!

And as the last section, the Daily Promotion! will ask you to test out a new app/program to earn points.  This will vary.

For example, when I was writing this, I was asked to download an app while logged in and watch a video on that app to earn my points.

Perk.tv Hacks and Tips

Seeing the Perk TV app is probably one of the best ways to earn a passive income, I wanted to share some tips and hacks I learned along the way.

In using these tips, you can greatly maximize your earnings and truly earn money doing nothing.

Find Cheap Phones to Farm Points

What a lot of people do is that they will often purchase a very cheap smartphone solely for this purpose and will run the shows on autopilot.

There are a lot of phones out there, but your end game is to find an Android-based phone that can run the official Perk.TV app and costs less than $50~ or so.

Whether it’s eBay or Amazon, it’s not too hard to find one for less than $50.  The Kyocera Hydro, for instance, retails for much less than this.

Doing the math I mentioned above, even if you were to invest $250 in five phones, you could break even at the end of one month if you kept at it, seeing you could earn at least $200 a month.  Even if Perk were to fail in the future, you could always resell your phones and get most of your money back.

As a final note here in this section, do keep in mind that cheap phones often crash, which means you could come back to your phone to find out that the phone crashed hours ago and you didn’t get rewarded for that time.   Just keep that in mind.

Watch Your Internet Connection

As you may or may not know, a lot of major ISP providers now cap you as to how much data you can use in a month.  Like your cellphone, if you go over your data allotment, then you will have to pay so much per X GB, making it that much harder earning with this platform.  In turn, this could make it not worth it.

Seeing you’re going to watch videos 24/7 in some cases, it’s so important to watch your usage and know how much data you can use in a month.

If you don’t have restrictions, then that’s great — watch as much as you can.

However, if you’re limited, you may want to think about this approach and consider something else.

Keep Your Phone Cool

If you plan on investing in cheaper smartphones, they are going to overheat fast with all of this video playing.

So, to keep your phones cool, be sure to lower your screen brightness and attempt to keep your phone near a fan to keep it cool.

In doing so, you can be assured your phone won’t overheat while you’re way.  As mentioned, overheating is very common among the cheaper phones so you will want to take this seriously.

Also, as a safety precaution, it doesn’t hurt to reset every 24 to 48 hours to keep the problems away.

Come Back Every Few Hours

Perk TV made some changes as of late, wherein they will ask you if you’re still there.   The terms and conditions do mention that you shouldn’t use the application without any activity, but they really don’t define how long this is.

If you don’t click yes, then they will close you out, so you’re going to want to make sure you visit your phones every few hours to ensure the ads are still active.

Even if you don’t see the message after three hours, it doesn’t hurt to reload your app to reset the clock.

Don’t Create Multiple Accounts

Yes, you can have multiple devices on one account, but DO NOT create additional accounts as this is going to get you banned.

Play it safe and only keep it to one account per household to stay active.

It’s not worth the risk, even if you think you can get around it.

Limit to Five Devices

As I already mentioned, you can use up to five devices on one account, so be sure to take advantage if you can.

However, if you want to get greedy and use more, unfortunately, you will get an error message and even point restrictions.

I have read many problems, so again, it’s not worth the risk of using more than five devices.

Follow r/perktv

The somewhat popular subreddit, r/perktv, is a great follow to keep up to date.

While only a few posts pop up each week, it’s worth at least checking out to see what’s happening as of late.

Rewards

Perk TV offers a large variety of rewards, including gift cards, PayPal, tokens, and even prizes.

As for gift cards, honestly, Perk offered just about any retailer imaginable.  From Amazon to Google Play, you name it, there’s a good chance that you could find it here.  These were the most popular cards at the time of this review:

You can also convert your points into what’s known as “tokens.”  These tokens are simply a way to enter a sweepstake to win big prizes such as an iPhone, gift cards, etc.  It’s really not that great of a value, but it could be something to consider if you like to gamble.

And, lastly, it doesn’t need much explanation, but you can cash out via PayPal, which, as seen below, you will need at least 9000 points to cash out for $5.

How Much Are Perk Points Worth?

As mentioned earlier, it’s said to be worth about $0.0007 per point, but this greatly depends on how you cash out as the more you cash out for, the more you can get per point.

So 9,000 points will get you $5, which is close to $0.0006 per point, but if you waited and cashed out for $100 at 140,000 points, your points would be worth closer to $0.0011 per point.

The lesson here is to make sure you wait as long as possible if you really want to maximize your point value.

In the end, your points, depending on what you cash out for, can range from $0.0006 to $0.0011 per point.

Final Thoughts

If you had to stick through it and watch each video, then I would say Perk TV is not worth it at all.

However, seeing you can let the videos run for hours and get rewarded, then it could be worth it if you don’t mind the hassle of going to your phones/computer every few hours to earn your points.

You’re not going to earn much, even if you cap out your devices, but in the end, if you have five devices and keep them running daily, it is possible to earn $200+ a month doing nothing at all.

As one of the best passive income apps on the market, Perk TV has potential, but to me, I just can’t find myself running phones, watching my bandwidth numbers rise and having to worry about going to my phones every few hours to ensure the videos are running.  Not only that, the $5~ a day just isn’t worth it, especially for the toll it would put on my phones, cable bill and so forth.

While I wouldn’t steer your clear, you can at least test it out if you like the idea of earning some cash in your sleep.  Just don’t expect to get rich!
