Product Tube Review: $15+ for Short Videos?

Product Tube is an app and website that rewards members for submitting short videos about the products they purchase and use.

The sole purpose of these videos is to assist retailers in better understanding consumer needs and improving their products.

What’s neat about this app is the fact that you can use your smartphone to record and submit your videos.  There’s no need for specialized software or editing skills.  Plus, if you’re camera shy, no worries since you don’t have to appear on camera if you’d rather not.

The company promises that you can earn between $50 and $80 for an hour’s work each month, but is this true?

As you’ll discover later, this might be a bit of an overestimate, particularly as most projects are found in big cities.

In today’s review, let’s explore Product Tube and see what they are all about.  Can you earn a ton of money making videos?   Is it legit?  What are other people saying?

As in all of my reviews, I’m always 100% honest, only recommending what I feel is worth your time.

Getting Started

Getting started on the platform is very simple.  You can download it on your phone (Android or iOS) or you can sign up via your desktop.  No matter how you join, it’s 100% free.

Just complete their registration form and confirm your membership.

Signing up involves a few easy steps: fill out their registration form and then validate your membership. To do this, simply check your email and click on the verification link they’ve sent you.

Once you’ve got that sorted, you’ll be able to log into their website or mobile app.

Remember, you must be at least 18 to sign up. If you’re aged 13 to 17, you’re also welcome, but you’ll need permission from your parents or legal guardian.  Also, it’s only open to U.S. residents .

Video Projects

Your main way to earn through the app is simply by completing video projects.  Put simply, you will make videos of the products you buy.

As a member, you will log into your dashboard, which is accessible either through a web browser or their mobile app (more on this later), and then check out the various video projects available.

If you do see a project available, then you will notice that each one will have a set of guidelines for you to stick to while creating your video. Once done, all you need to do is upload it via their mobile app or website to be considered.

After, your video will then go in for review. As soon as they confirm your video ticks all their boxes, you’ll receive the reward promised for that video project.

Don’t worry, the videos you make are used strictly for market research and will never be shared on other websites or used for direct marketing or advertising.

What kind of videos will I create?

You have a couple of options in terms of the type of video you can create: an in-store video or an at-home product review are the most common, but the project you choose will determine which one you’ll be making.

Usually, after creating an in-store video, you might get a call to make an at-home product review video for the same product.

However, regardless of the type of video required for the project you choose, one thing is a constant: you need to follow the instructions as specified.   You will also want to make sure that your video has good lighting and clear audio to avoid rejection.

A typical video should be two to five minutes long and doesn’t require any editing – just make sure it satisfies the conditions noted.  Again, directions are key here.

Getting Paid

Once you complete a video project and it gets the green light from Product Tube, they credit a certain amount to your account.  This is always specified in the project details.

The cash you earn can later be swapped for Amazon e-gift cards, which, at the time of this review, is the only form of reward they provide.

You can begin cashing in for an Amazon e-gift card once your account reaches $5. Just bear in mind that you can only cash out in multiples of five (say $5, $10, $25, $50).

Their payment system is quite streamlined, a point in their favor. Yet, I think they could do better by offering alternative rewards like cash, which could be withdrawn via something like PayPal.  This isn’t a huge con, however.

What Can I Make?

What you can make from Product Tube largely depends on the number of project invites you get.  According to Product Tube, you can rake in up to $80 worth of Amazon gift cards per month.

They suggest on their website that for every hour of video footage you create in a month, you can earn between $50 and $80+. While it’s a compelling proposition, it’s not often you’ll have enough tasks to reach that level.

The hitch here is that everything boils down to whether you get project invites or not.

Based on what I’ve read from other reviews, project invites don’t exactly come by frequently. So, it’s hard to confidently say you’ll be pulling in that amount every month.

Moreover, you need to ensure your videos are high quality to increase your chances of approval. The best way to do that is to shoot in a well-lit location with minimal background noise.

On the plus side, they do pay quite generously for each video you complete, especially if it requires a longer runtime. Most projects will fetch you around $15 to $60, which is a nice sum.  The question is how many of these can you get?

It’s a pretty reasonable amount for tasks like these, but do keep in mind that most of the projects will need you to buy a product. So, you will need to invest a bit of your own money before you start earning.  This won’t be your full earnings.

In the end, its earning potential is decent. It would be even better if they consistently offered a larger number of projects.  I don’t think you will earn $50+ per month, however.

What Are Others Saying

In all of my videos, I love to see what the users are saying. And, to find this, I usually check the official app.

Here’s a summary of what people were saying:

The Pros

  • easy to use
  • making the videos can be fun
  • payout process is easy
  • easy way to earn money in comparison to other apps

The Cons

  • limited reviews for some
  • glitch/tech issues such as video uploading
  • the app does not provide status updates on submissions, leading to confusion and uncertainty
  • only Amazon as a payout option

Final Thoughts

3/10In the end, if you don’t mind buying a product and making a three+ minute video, then it may be something of consideration.  Seeing they pay quite well for a project, sometimes to the tune of $50, it may be worth checking in on occasion.  However, don’t expect to make more than $80+ per month as the company stated, as I just didn’t see that many projects to justify that response.  If anything, you might make that every few months.

For now, at least download the app and see where it takes you.  If you see projects, great.  If not, you can always delete it.

That’s going to do it for now.

As always, if you want to sound off on your experience, feel free to do so below.
