Thinking about joining SproutGigs as a crowd worker?

I’m here to give you the inside scoop on what the platform is about, its pros and cons, and some pointers on getting started.

It’s no secret that the gig economy has gained a lot of momentum recently, especially with the push from the Covid-19 pandemic. Today, this industry is estimated to be worth around $500 billion and is growing rapidly.  For you, that means there’s a lot of money for you to make.

In today’s review, let’s dive into what SproutGigs, a significant player in this domain, and see what it brings to the table.

What is SproutGigs?

SproutGigs is a platform where freelancers can earn money by completing small tasks. Though it was originally called Picoworkers, they changed their name once the concept of “gigs” became popular. With over a million workers and a clientele that includes some big names, the platform is buzzing.

As a worker, you have two main options.

You can either stick to simple tasks like upvoting posts on Reddit or engage in longer-term projects known as gigs. If you’re skilled in areas like data entry, writing cover letters, or image conversion, for example, you can offer these as gigs, kind of how you would on platforms like Fiverr.

While gigs generally pay more and have less competition, they aren’t as frequently available. So, it’s a good idea to combine both small tasks and gigs to maximize your opportunities.

Is SproutGigs Legit?

Yes, SproutGigs is a legitimate platform.  They genuinely offer online jobs and make sure their workers get paid. And with an escrow feature, they also protect you from potential scammers.

Now, I get it.

There are mixed reviews online, and you might be wondering if it’s truly worth your time. While some users have had great experiences, others have found it challenging to secure consistent work or felt the pay was low given the high competition.

But remember, SproutGigs is upfront about what they offer, and they’ve managed to remain a trusted platform over the years.

What Can You Do on SproutGigs?

On SproutGigs, you’ll find jobs like clicking on things (like giving a Reddit post a thumbs up), checking out websites, or even doing a quick Google search. Some tasks need a pinch of creativity, like writing comments on blogs, reviewing products, or engaging on social media posts.  If you’re into social media, they’ve got tasks like subscribing to YouTube channels or following someone on Twitter.  And if you’re tech-savvy, sometimes you’ll need to download software, apps, or games.

When it comes to gigs, there’s a lot of freedom. You can offer almost anything, and there’s no problem with offering multiple gigs, as you can see from the screenshot above.

Finding Work on SproutGigs

Yes, you can definitely find work on SproutGigs, but be realistic about your expectations.   The pay isn’t always high, and the availability of tasks can be unpredictable.

Most tasks are one-time deals, and because they’re easy, there’s a rush to grab them when they appear.  If you want to find gigs you can do without setting up a profile, then you will find them beneath the “MicroJobs” tab.

On the plus side, with the right marketing, your gigs can attract repeat clients. However, the volume of gigs might not be as steady as you’d hope.

A lot like Fiverr, this is where you will have to create your own service and then promote it.  There’s no guarantee for success here.

Tips to Secure Work on SproutGigs

To increase your chances of landing tasks or gigs, start by setting up an honest profile. For instance, if you lie about where you live, you might get tasks tailored for that region which could backfire. Also, be prepared to share personal details like your phone number, but don’t worry, things like credit card info aren’t mandatory (though offering it can sometimes get you better rates for certain tasks).

To stay ahead, spend ample time on the platform. Refreshing the work page frequently can give you a head start on new opportunities. And while it might be tempting to jump on every task, avoid rushing and making mistakes.  The tasks do go fast.

Lastly, give gigs a shot. Making videos or other marketing materials to promote your skills can pay off in the long run.

Cashing Out

As soon as your SproutGigs account hits $5.75 or more, you can request a payment via PayPal, Skrill, or Litecoin. Expect to receive your earnings within ten business days.

However, if you’re a newbie, there’s a catch. You have to complete a certain number of tasks, reducing a timer (like from 200 seconds to zero), before you can withdraw your money. This means successfully finishing about 20 tasks to start withdrawing.

Joining SproutGigs

Joining SproutGigs is straightforward.

Visit their registration page, fill in your details, and once you hit “Send,” you’ll receive a confirmation email. After clicking on the email’s link, you’ll be directed to a page where you can start choosing tasks, especially if you’re browsing from a mobile.

The Pros:

  • They do pay their freelancers, which proves its legitimacy.
  • It welcomes freelancers globally.
  • The platform offers diverse tasks and filtering options.
  • There’s a gig section, reminding me a bit of Fiverr.
  • It’s mobile-friendly and offers multiple payment methods.
  • Measures are in place to fend off scammers.
  • No need for previous experience to join.

The Cons:

  • The pay, while guaranteed, isn’t that high.
  • Being a free platform means there’s a lot of competition.
  • The gig section is still in its infancy.
  • Employers get the last word on whether you get paid.
  • You’re kept in the dark about who the client is.
  • Some accounts get closed over minor, sometimes unconfirmed, issues.

Final Thoughts

4/10Given other options, one might be tempted to say SproutGigs isn’t worth it. But from what I’ve gathered, it’s one of the better platforms for micro-workers, but I wouldn’t say it’s the best. Yes, the earnings aren’t huge, but at least they pay, which isn’t the case for all platforms. The added gig section provides a chance to land a more lucrative job while doing smaller tasks.  The best options, of course, would be Fiverr and Upwork.

In short, SproutGigs may be worthwhile. Just remember, however, it’s not a fast track to riches or a full-time job substitute. Expect some bumps, but if you’re looking to work with a reputable platform and earn fair rewards, it might be a good fit, especially if you’re looking to add services, similar to that of Fiverr.

That’s going to do it for now.
