Time Etc Job Review: $17/HR as an Assistant

Time etc was founded in 2007, helping more than 22,000+ companies, both big and small, with their assistant needs.

If you like the idea of becoming a virtual assistant, it may be a company to consider, seeing they are one of the bigger options in the industry.  You get to work from home as well as work with some predominant companies.  Time etc is unique in that they require experience, but don’t let that stop you as you may qualify and not realize it.

In today’s review, I want to talk about Time etc.  I want to talk about the pay, how you can apply as well as what the internet thinks of it.  As in all of my reviews, I’m always 100% honest, only recommending what I feel is worth your time.

So, with that being said, let’s dive and see if Time etc is a company worth working for.

Working as a Virtual Assistant

As a virtual assistant, picture yourself as a virtual secretary where you conduct all of your tasks from the comforts of your home.  Your tasks will greatly vary depending on the company you’re working for, but it can range anywhere from simple data entry, to managing a calendar to answering emails.  It’s a long list of tasks, but some of the more common tasks include:

  • simple accounting tasks, such as issuing invoices and/or logging expenses
  • booking travel, appointments, etc
  • data entry
  • editing/formatting documents
  • finding products
  • managing a calendar
  • managing email, from replying to sending email
  • research
  • social media management
  • transcribing
  • writing

There are many more tasks, but again, it will depend on who you’re working with and what they need from you.

Qualifications to Work with Time etc

If you’re interested in working with them, they do ask that you do meet the following qualifications:

  • have at least 5+ years of relevant experience
  • must have experience working form home
  • available during the day
  • based in the United States
  • have a laptop or desktop

Another qualification, once you’re hired, is that you need to hold professional liability insurance, which can cost upwards of $20 to $30 a month, sometimes much more.  This is one of the only companies I have researched that requires such as a thing.  If you do end up working with them, be sure to factor this into your pay rate.

Applying

If you’re interested in working with them, the company asks you to answer a variety of questions, such as if you have experience, as well as what type of tasks you’re interested in.

You must also describe why you want to work from home.  After the first page, as seen above, you will then answer even more questions.  This entire process can take about 20 minutes to complete.

The entire application process is straightforward, and if the company considers your application, then you will hear back within five business days.  The company has strict standards, only accepting one percent of those who apply.  I don’t want to scare you off, but this seems to be a company with very high standards in comparison to other competitors.

How Much Does Time etc Pay?

According to the company, you will start at $13 per hour, but as you work, you can earn more through incentives and bonuses.  People who work with them state that you can read a training guide of sorts to learn how to increase your pay once you’re brought on board.

Glassdoor users reported making an average of $25,000 a year, which is about $2,000~ a month working full time.  Again, remember that this doesn’t include insurance costs, taxes, etc.

The Reviews Online

The more than 150+ Glassdoor users gave the company a very solid 4.7/5 review with 100% approving the CEO.  That’s quite impressive.  Workers loved the experience, the option to work from home and the ability to set your hours.  Cons, however, included the PayPal fees from the paycheck as well as the lack of hours.  Some even mentioned demanding clients, who wanted answers no matter what time of the day it was.

A few Indeed reviewers gave the company a 4.5/5 rating, noting that they loved the support and clients they worked with.  Scheduling your own schedule was a plus, too.

Pros

  • legitimate company with great reputation
  • great training
  • flexible hours (work when you want)
  • work from home

Cons

  • lack of hours in some cases
  • no benefits
  • very few people get accepted

Final Thoughts

7/10Time etc is 100% legit.  They have thousands of clients, many you have heard of and have been around for quite some time.  If you’re able to get in, congrats!  They have high standards and this simply means you meet their strict qualifications.  Plus, it seems like the company has a fantastic reputation, that’s great as well.

In the end, if you’re happy making $13 per hour and acting as a virtual assistant online, then it’s up to you to decide.  If you work 40 hours a week, for instance, that’s about $520.  And, remember, since you’re an independent contractor, you will be responsible for your taxes, so you will have to slash about 15 to 20% off that total, making your take-home pay more like $400.  With no benefits, I personally wouldn’t pursue it as I would rather work DoorDash, etc outside my home to make much more, but you may not have that choice.  I understand that.

So, to say it’s worth it is up to you.

If you like the pay and you can get accepted, try it out.  They will hold you to a high standard, but I believe that’s why they have a great reputation.  If you’re questioning that $13 per hour, I say skip it and consider a local job that can pay much more and won’t have as much stress.

That’s going to do it for now.
