Transcription Hub Review: Scam or 100% Legit?

Some of the links may be from a sponsor. Advertising Disclosure

Transcription Hub is one of the many companies that pay you to type.  As long as you can type at least 60+ words per minute and you don’t mind converting what you hear into words, this may be a gig for you.

I have talked about multiple online transcription companies before and I’m trying my best to review as many as I can.  There are a lot of scams out there, and I want to make sure you know of the many legitimate companies out there.

In today’s review, I want to talk about Transcription Hub.  I will explain how much you can make, what others think about, and of course, if you should even consider it.  As in all of my reviews, I’m always non-biased, only recommending what I feel is worth your time.

Requirements to Work

If you’re interested in becoming a transcriptionist with the company, the great thing is that the entry barrier is relatively low.  From what I researched, all that they ask for is that you can abide by specific timeframes as well as have a computer and working headset.  No experience is necessary, at least it seems; however, you will need to pass a test.

Like almost every transcription company I have researched, you will have to pass a qualifying exam to be considered for the position.  And, don’t worry, as they will provide all of the training necessary so that you know what’s expected of you on the exam.

Transcription Work

Unlike some transcription companies which focus on one industry, this isn’t the case with Transcription Hub, as they focus on a lot of areas.  Picture it as a general transcription company that provides transcription and translation services to any business and/or individual.

According to the company, you may be asked to type on work in the following areas:

  • board meetings
  • classroom lectures
  • conferences
  • education
  • focus groups
  • general meetings
  • insurance
  • interviews
  • law enforcement
  • legal
  • market research
  • medical
  • podcasts transcription
  • reports
  • seminars
  • technical reports
  • telephone conversations
  • webinars
  • workshops

The great thing about Transcription Hub is that you’re an independent contractor, which means you will be able to pick and choose which jobs you want to work on.  So, if you’re a fan of one particular area, say, telephone conversations, then you can focus on those.  If you hate something else, you can avoid it.

If you do get accepted, you will be able to log in to your dashboard and then view any work available to you at the moment.  This will include the nature of the job, the subject at hand and how much you will get paid.  If it’s something of interest, you can claim the job and finish it by the deadline specified.  It’s fairly straightforward.  And, depending on your level, as mentioned, you can accept more than one job in some cases.  This is why it’s important to do good on that initial qualification test when you apply.

Most work will have to, usually, be completed within 24 hours.

How Much Does Transcription Hub Pay?

How much you get paid will greatly depend on the type of work you’re accepting, as some audio files will be much longer than others.  It will also depend on how fast you type.  If you can type 80+ WPM, you’re going to make much more than someone who can only type 40.  This is important in the transcription industry, no matter who you apply to.

Also, an important factor I want to mention is that the company will group you into certain groups based on your exam score.  This includes Gold, Silver or Bronze, all of which each has their jobs and pay.  The higher you rise in the rank, the more you can potentially make.

As for pay, most reviews I read only say the rate averages around $0.75 per audio minute, which is relatively low for the industry.  Remember, that this is per audio minute.  Most people take about five minutes to transcribe one minute, so that means you will average about $9~ per hour.

No benefits are offered since you’re considered an independent contractor.

Getting Paid

All payments are made to your PayPal account on file or you can choose direct deposit, too.  Whichever is easier.

The company pays out monthly and there’s no minimum threshold.  Whatever you earned the month prior will be paid in the current month.  For instance, March payments will be for the work done in February.

Applying

If you like everything you’re reading about the company, then you can apply on the website at TranscriptionHub.com.

After doing so, you will then be asked to fill out a brief application, which will ask for your name, address as well as few other pieces of information.  They will also want to know how many minutes you can transcribe in an hour as well as how many days you’re available in a week.

Depending on the current demand, it could take about 24 to 48 hours to hear back or you may never hear back at all.  Keep in mind that these online transcription companies often receive a lot of applications so they can’t always reach out to everyone who applies.

Final Thoughts

5/10Transcription Hub is 100% legitimate but they are nowhere close to being one of the larger transcription companies online.  If you were to apply, I don’t think you will find as much work as you would elsewhere.  I’m not saying you shouldn’t apply.  I’m just saying you may be disappointed in what you see if you do get onboarded.  I have done a lot of work in this industry and I rarely see this name pop up.  However, like I said in the intro, I’m trying to cover as many reviews as I can.

In the end, the company isn’t a scam nor are you going to have to invest money to work with them.

  • Made multiple attempts to work with Transcription Hub. The link they sent to an audio file for testing purposes did not work. Dropbox support reported the link was inactive. Multiple attempts to email Transcription Hub support, I even created multiple profiles to try again, as well as reaching out to their customer service department that’s for regular customers. ZERO response. Nothing. Do not recommend.

    • I also experienced this issue. Contacted their support team and got no response back. I’m guessing they know about the issue at this point if they’ve heard it time and time again, but they must not care to fix it.

  • I spotted three grammar errors on their application page and that was enough of a red flag for me. How can a company, especially in this sector, have simple and glaringly obvious grammar mistakes and be taken seriously? I wouldn’t touch it with a barge pole.
