I have talked about so many ways in that you can get paid to test website and apps.  It’s a decent way to earn money, and with some of them, you can easily earn $100+ per month with ease.  Granted, you won’t be able to quit your day job, but it’s a fun way to earn some money on the side, all while working remotely, as long as you don’t mind beta testing.

In today’s review, I want to cover one of the more popular paid testing platforms – Userlytics.

The nice thing about these platforms is that you can sign up for as many as you want, and in fact, I recommend you do so.  The main reason why is that, sometimes, one site will have more work than others, and it’s nice to log into a few to see which ones offer the best opportunities for the day.

Again, if you like the idea of testing apps and websites, let’s see if this is a platform to consider.

What is Userlytics?

Userlytics was founded in 2009, originating in San Francisco, as a way to help companies figure out what users like and dislike about their website and app products.  Since then, they have expanded across the globe, with offices in Europe and Asia.  As I write this, they have more than 1.5 million testers.

Is Userlytics legit?

The company is, indeed, legit, and as I mentioned, it’s a platform that helps companies test their websites as well as their apps.  They work with a ton of big names, as well, such as Google, American Airlines and Intuit, to name a few.

Companies will create a test and then recruit people, such as you, to answer questions while you’re browsing the website/app in real time.  Usually, as long as you fit the company’s demographic, you will see these jobs show up on your dashboard.

Requirements to Getting Started

If you’re interested in getting started, then let it be known that there are requirements, much like the many I have reviewed.

Of course, you need, at a minimum, a computer, mobile phone and/or tablet.  As long as your device is no older than five years old, you shouldn’t have a problem here.  However, if you do have a laptop/computer, a webcam and microphone is recommended for most tests, as the company will ask you download a recorder to start taking tests.  Make sure you have installed if it’s possible.

The company isn’t strict as to who can join, only that most projects do come from North America and Europe.  If you live outside this region, you may never see any projects pop up.  Just keep this in mind.

You need to be 16+ years old to join.

Signing Up for Userlytics

To sign up, the company asks for a few simple personal questions, such as your name, the country you reside in as well as date of birth.  At the time, you will also have to add your PayPal email address as this is the only way they pay at the moment.

When you sign up, the process doesn’t stop here, however.  You will then have to complete an in-depth profile as this is how they are going to learn more about you and match you up with the appropriate projects.  After all, a cat food company wouldn’t want you to test their product if you didn’t own a pet, right?

While it is completely optional to fill out your profile, I highly recommend you do so as this is going to greatly increase your chances of getting more jobs in the future.  This can be said about any research company.

Whenever you fill out the qualification tests, they will want to more about you, such as your relationship status, where you work and so forth.  The more you complete, the more you can make.

Taking the Tests

After you join and start taking the qualification tests, you should soon start seeing work pop up on your dashboard.  This will show up directly on your dashboard beneath the “test invitations” tab, as seen below.

If you qualify for any test, you can see them here and in your inbox.  Whenever a test is ready, you will receive a notification.  Just be sure to accept it as soon as you can because it’s often open to a certain number of people.

In some cases, you may have to answer additional profile questions to take, but it isn’t always true.

How many tests you receive will depend on your demographics, your rating and the demand at the moment.  If you have a good reputation on the platform and you filled out your profile, you will be near the top when it comes to getting invites.   Whenever you take a test, provide the best feedback you can so that clients rate you highly.

What will I do during the test?

Whenever you take a test, you will just have to follow the test instructions as instructed by the client.  Each client has their own wants and needs, so it will vary, but as long as you follow the instructions and speak your thoughts aloud, you shouldn’t have a problem with your test.

For example, you may be asked to register an account and then make a fake purchase.  You will then share your thoughts as to how easy it was to use the site.  You may also be asked to look around a site and find something specific.  In doing so, how easy was it?  What did you like/hate about it?  These are just a few examples.

Sometimes, you may have to use your webcam, whereas ALL tests will require that you speak into the microphone, usually speaking out loud as you maneuver around.  If you’re uncomfortable doing this, it’s not meant for you.

What will I test?

Most of the time, it will include websites, mobile app mock-ups, advertisements, videos as well as related material that companies want your opinion on.

How long do I get?

On average, most tests are about 20 to 40 minutes.

How much do tests pay?

This will depend on the test length, the client as well as what’s expected of you.  According to the company and reviews online, averages tend to be in the $5 to $90+ range.  This is a great range, but I found the average test to be in the $10 to $20 range.

Payment Method and Payouts

Once you submit your test, you will then have to wait for the client to approve your test.  When you do, you will see your test marked as “approved.”  You will then have to wait for the next pay period, which happens every 15 days.

There’s no minimum payout, either.  Once you get approved, that balance then accrues for the next 15 days until payout.

All payouts are made via PayPal to the email address on file.

The Pros:

• you need to speak/use a webcam to complete most tests

Final Thoughts

7/10Userlytics is definitely one of the better websites that pay you to test websites and apps.  You won’t make a ton, but I think you can make more than taking surveys or completing offers in most cases.  If you log in frequently and you live in the United States, you can earn $50 to $150 a month, no problem, sometimes much more.   A lot of the tests do pay more than $10 to $20+, which is nice; however, the true question is how many test invites you will receive.

Userlytics isn’t a scam nor will you get ripped off if you sign up.  As long as you’re comfortable speaking your thoughts aloud for 10~ minutes and you take your tests seriously, then it’s worth a shot.
