Winwalk App: Can You Get Paid To Walk?

How Long Does It Take To Earn?Winwalk is a free pedometer that will count your steps and then reward you with gift cards whenever you hit certain thresholds.  The more you move, the more you can make.  It’s 100% free to use and you can get started immediately.

Now, while the app sounds great in theory, most of these apps don’t pay all that much.  I’m talking a dollar or two a month.  Plus, they tend to bog down your phone and you will find yourself charging it more than you should as it’s always running while you’re out and about.  While I’m not saying this to deter you, I’m just saying so because I don’t want you to set your expectations high.

If you want to earn something while you’re walking, then it can be okay.  It’s better than nothing, right?  That’s why I wanted to write this review so that you know what’s expected of you if you were to download it.  So, as in all of my reviews, I’m always 100% honest, only recommending what I feel is worth your time.  Let’s see if the app is worth a download…

How Does it Work?

Winwalk is simply a pedometer that will be built into your phone’s app.  Unlike most get paid to walk apps that use GPS, it will use your phone’s built-in sensor to track your steps.  This means there’s no GPS tracking and it will preserve your battery because of it.

Aside from tracking your steps, it will even track how many calories you have burned as well as your walking distance and time.  Consider it as an all-in-one app that can track most of your walking/running, etc progress throughout the day.

To get started, you can only download it on an Android device, and at the moment, at least when I write this, it isn’t available for Apple phones.

Once you download it, you can go through a brief tutorial to see how it works and immediately start earning coins.

How Much Can I Earn?

The app notes that you can 1 coin for every 100 steps you take.

However, you can only earn up to 100 coins daily, which means you will cap out at 10,000 steps, which is quite a lot.  Just don’t expect to earn unlimited coins.  At 100 coins a day, that’s about 3,000 coins a month to give you an idea as to how much you can earn if you walk 10,000 steps a day.  Again, that’s a lot of walking.

Once you earn enough, you can either exchange your coins in the shop or you can try your luck in the lottery.

NOTE:  You can earn more money in their “missions” tab.  You can get paid 5 coins for every video you watch or up to 2,000 coins if you complete a survey. All of these come from third-party offerwalls and you won’t find much in terms of uniqueness here.

Tracking Your Progress

The dashboard in itself is very simple.  As you can see, it will track your steps, how many miles you have walked for the day, the calories you burned as well as how many minutes you walked.

The purple avatar in the corner will take you to your settings page where you can see your seven day and 30 day step average.  You can also track your “achievements” as well as tweak some settings if need be.  Honestly, there’s not much here unless you want to track your averages.

Rewards

To cash out, the app does offer a decent number of rewards, from food to clothing.  The nice thing is that you can browse the rewards by category and find one that is of interest to you.

At the time of this writing, these were the rewards that you could choose from:

  • Chipotle
  • Domino’s
  • Doordash
  • Starbucks
  • Subway
  • Taco Bell
  • Uber Eats
  • Google Play
  • Nintendo
  • PlayStation
  • Spotify
  • Uber
  • Xbox
  • Adidas
  • Kohl’s
  • Nike
  • TJX
  • Amazon
  • Best Buy
  • Kroger
  • Target
  • Home Depot
  • Walmart
  • Bath and Body Works
  • CVS
  • Sephora

All of the rewards started at $10 and you would need 16,000 coins to redeem, as you can see.

How Long Does It Take To Earn?

Doing the math, you can only earn 100 coins a day if you walk 10,000 steps.   If you think you can walk 10,000 steps a day, then you will need to walk for 160 days straight to earn $10 in gift card rewards.  That’s about 4 months of walking.

Is that worth it to you?

It all depends.  You can only answer this.

If you think walking 10,000 steps for four months straight if worth $10, then sure, go for it.  However, if you don’t want to be tracked and worry about your battery usage, then you’re much better off taking a survey or two on something like Swagbucks and earning $10 in a day rather than wait four months.

Personally, I wouldn’t download it, but at least you know what’s expected of you to earn that reward.

The Pros:

  • earn rewards simply by walking
  • decent selection of gift cards
  • motivates you to walk

The Cons:

  • step count isn’t always accurate
  • rewards can be slow to payout once you hit the threshold
  • you need to walk for months before being able to earn
  • technical glitches reported
  • app needs to run constantly in the background to register steps, causing significant battery drain

Final Thoughts

4/10In the end, it’s a legitimate app, but you’re going to have to walk for months before you earn $10.  I just don’t feel as if it’s worth it to watch my battery drain and worry about my steps counting.  It just isn’t worth it to me.  However, if you feel earning $10 every few months if worth it to you, then maybe you will find it as a motivator. Only you can decide that, I suppose.

That’s going to do it for now.
