Cash4Minutes is an app that is said to pay you for making phone calls to internet radio broadcasts.
According to the official website, it’s a “unique service that allows you to earn cash with your monthly unused phone minutes simply by listening to internet radio broadcasts.” I mentioned it in my 14 ways to listen to music but I never reviewed it in detail.
With more than 180,000 users and over $11 million in payouts, it’s an app that can make you money, but the question is if it’s worth your time.
How Does Cash4Minutes Work?
Cash4Minutes is very easy to understand.
The service will work by calling the verified phone number you have displayed on your account. You will do this when you sign up and register your number. Once you connect it, the system will reward you a small amount for every minute you’re connected and listening to the radio broadcast. That’s it.
In exchange for listening, you can choose from a few rewards, such as Amazon gift cards, Bitcoin (BTC) or a bank transfer, whichever you prefer.
You can add as many phone numbers as you want and there are no limits as to how many concurrent calls can be made. In some cases, however, your phone may be disconnected after a certain amount of time when connected. In this case, you can simply redial to start earning again.
Just remember that you will need minutes to call, so if you’re on an unlimited calling plan, you’re fine. However, if you have a prepaid phone plan with limited minutes, you may want to avoid this as you could go over your minutes quickly.
NOTE: Cash4Minutes does not share your personal details with third parties; however, they may send you promotional material to your email.
Making Calls on Your Dashboard
After you confirm your account, you can access your dashboard, in which you can see the full access of numbers.
When you click on the numbers, you can then see a huge list of numbers you can call into. This will include the country, phone number as well as what you can make per minute.
When I was writing this, for instance, there were more than 164 pages of numbers you can browse through.
When you choose a number, I would make sure you choose a country you’re from as well as try to choose the highest rate. You can only call from the country your number is registered to. If you live in the United States, you cannot click on the Albania tab, etc. Keep that in mind.
The nice thing is that you can organize by the highest rate, so you can see the best paying offers at the moment.
For example, when I was writing this, those numbers you see above paid out the most, which was about 0.5 per minute. But, as I noted, would have to live in the Dominica region to take advantage of this number.
When you see a number that makes sense to you, just call it and let your phone run. That’s it. You don’t have to talk to anyone nor do you have to do anything while on the phone.
Sending SMS Messages
Aside from making calls, you can also earn money when you use your text messages.
All you have to do is scan a SMS verification message, as seen below, and the website will prompt you to send certain words/phrases to numbers.
If you were to send out text messages, you can do so via the same number that’s on your account.
Like the minutes, just make sure you have enough text messages as your carrier will charge you if you go over and Cash4Minutes isn’t responsible.
You can send up to 300 SMS messages per day and you get paid for each one.
How Much Does Cash4Minutes Pay?
As you could see in my screenshot above, where you live and which rate you choose can greatly affect your rate. On average, most calls will pay you anywhere from $0.03 to more than $0.15 per minute, sometimes much more.
On average, you can expect to make about $3 to $6 per hour if you were to let your phone run for 60 minutes straight.
As for texting, it pays less, about a half of a penny or so for every text you send. Even if you reach the 300 limit, you’re lucky to make $1 at most. It’s one of the reasons I don’t recommend the texting feature.
Remember, every country pays different rates, so your results will vary. And, also remember that this doesn’t include going over your minutes if you were to do so.
How does Cash4Minutes make money?
The website is vague, but they note that their revenue comes from the phone calls generated by you via your phone company. All you need to do is listen to the radio stations they are streaming and you get rewarded for every minute you listen.
Rewards
As noted, you can choose from Amazon gift cards, Bitcoin (BTC) or a bank transfer as your reward.
If you live outside of the United States, bank transfer fees will apply, ranging $5 to $15+ per transfer. Amazon gift cards and Bitcoin rewards will not have a high transfer fee.
As a huge RED flag, though, is that your earnings are not guaranteed. If Cash4Minutes isn’t paid by their phone company providers, they will not pay you. I have never heard of this, and I would consider it a big red flag.
Payouts are made once you reach the “threshold of minutes required.” They don’t say specifically what it is.
Creating an Account
To create an account, you can do so on the official website. Just follow the “sign up” button and fill out the portal.
This will include your name and email, that’s it.
Unlike most sites, it’s not much, as you can see, and once you register, you can access your dashboard immediately after confirming your email.
Anyone can use Cash4Minutes, but every country will differ in what’s offered. For instance, I saw nothing for the United States when I was writing this but I did see quite a few options for the United Kingdom. These pages are always being updated, so it doesn’t hurt to at least log in frequently if you really want to use the service.
The Pros:
- no effort required
- high rates for some countries
- anyone can join
- bank transfer option
The Cons:
- no PayPal
- won’t make much
- texting isn’t worth your time
- potential bank transfer fees
- no guarantee on payouts
Final Thoughts
4/10In the end, I think Cash4Minutes could be okay for some countries as long as you have the minutes to spare. If you live in a country where you can make $0.25 per minute and you were to have an unlimited plan, then that hourly rate could be quite attractive. However, what you will find is that most options will pay relatively low. I mean, running your phone for 60 minutes for maybe $3~ per hour? Eh.The biggest red flag is that Cash4Minutes doesn’t guarantee your payout unless they are paid by the phone company. This is a huge red flag as I have never read something like this before.
