On occasions, you can find that one of the world’s largest car rental companies, Hertz, often posts work from opportunities, some of which don’t require a college degree or a lot of experience.
Whether you’re looking for a part or full-time job and you’re comfortable talking to customers virtually, then this could be a job for you.
In today’s post, I’m going to talk about the work from home opportunities, mainly the entry-level jobs, often seen with Hertz and what the job entails. As always, I’m 100% honest and will never mislead you in any way.

What Kind of Jobs Are Available?
If you’re looking to work from home job and you’re looking for an entry-level job, then the most popular job often offered is the entry-level customer and sales associate opportunity. The company offers a variety of other remote gigs, but most of the time, these positions require a college education and some experience. If you do have the experience and a college degree, then I will show you how you can find these jobs later on in this guide.
What Does an Entry Level Customer & Sales Associate Do?
According to the official job listing, you’re considered to be an “essential member” of the team, providing the “fastest, easiest, and most valued experience” to the customers. A lot of locations allow their customers to complete their transactions through a live video rather than going directly to the counter. This is where you would work.
In short, you will be responsible for the following:
- providing customer service
- assist renters with their vehicle selection
- sell additional products such as insurance
According to the company, this is a fast-paced, sales-driven, inbound call center position. Hours usually range from 11:30 a.m. until 9:30 p.m., but virtual training is mandatory and this lasts about five weeks, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Training is paid.
Experience Needed
If you’re interested in becoming a virtual call center specialist, then you will need to possess the following skills:
- at least one year of sales/customer service experience
- excellent communication skills
- proficient in navigating computer applications/software
- ability to read directions, particularly maps
Generally, as long as you have at least one year of face-to-face experience, you can apply.
How to Apply
If you’re interested in applying, you will have to head to the official website and look for an opening. Keep in mind that the company isn’t always hiring, so don’t be discouraged. Simply head to this link and then search for customer service. You can also use the filters near the top. Make sure you input your zip code so that it doesn’t display hundreds of jobs.
When you do so, you will then want to scroll through the jobs and look for a small “remote” icon, which will look something like this…
If you see that icon, then that means the opportunity is available remotely. If it’s not listed, then you will have to work on site.
As a last note here, these virtual positions are only available in some states.
The Pay and Benefits
This isn’t your typical job I talk about on the website, where you can work whenever you want. You will be treated as an employee and will receive some benefits. This can be a plus to some, but a downfall to others. Again, part- and full-time positions are available.
Hertz offers a variety of benefits, including 401k packages, medical coverage, tuition reimbursement, paid time off, and even up to 40% off whenever you rent a car through Hertz. All of these benefits can be explained in detail via the company’s official job listing and can change at any time.
As for the pay, more than 300+ Glassdoor users claim the average pay to be in the $12 to $15 per hour plus some incentives. Like most corporations, you can rise in the ranks, but I’m unsure of how much growth is available in the virtual sector. In many cases, a small bonus may be available, up to $1,000.
Is Hertz a Good Company to Work For?
In my research, Hertz seems to be a meh company. On Glassdoor, for example, they had a measly 3.1/5 rating with only 47% approving the CEO, whereas Indeed reviewers gave it a 3.3/5.
So, what were people complaining about?
The Pros
- good benefits
- very fast pace (in a good way)
The Cons
- longer hours
- lack of support
- work/life balance not great
- tedious work
As with most jobs, there will always be pros and cons, of course, but in my quick research, Hertz falls below average, so don’t expect the best here.
Final Thoughts
