Are you fluent in Spanish and are passionate about teaching?

Are you looking for a job online in which you can teach Spanish?

If so, you’re in luck as there are quite a few opportunities that can help you earn cash in your free time while teaching others the Spanish language 100% online.  And, best of all, with most of the options I’m about to list, you can work whenever you choose, whether it be part-time or as a full-time career.  It’s as flexible as it comes.

As long as you’re fluent in Spanish and feel you can teach English-speaking students the language, let’s take a look at the many legitimate ways to teach Spanish online and get paid.  These platforms will give you the ability to teach Spanish online, even if you don’t have a ton of experience.

As a fair warning, there are a lot of options, so be sure to bookmark the ones you feel suit you best as they all have different requirements.  I will be sure to note the requirements in each section.

With all of that being said, let’s take a look at the many platforms that can help you get paid as a Spanish tutor.

Teach Spanish Online Jobs

Lingoda

Lingoda is a popular, cutting-edge modern online language school, which offers Spanish lessons 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

As a teacher, you will be asked to commit to a class, where you will have to scroll through a calendar and select a schedule that works for you.  Then, after you commit to that schedule, you will prepare for the class via the lesson materials on the platform.  When the class starts, you simply enter the classroom and follow the prompts to teach your group.

To qualify as a teacher, you must a certificate to teach in the language you’re interested in as well as 3+ years of teaching experience.   While you are considered to be a freelancer, you are expected to work at least five hours a week, but you can ultimately choose which hours you want to work.

The link below will take you directly to the FAQ/application process to start teaching Spanish online.  You could get started in as early as a week.

AmazingTalker

AmazingTalker was one of the first companies that popped up when I was researching this very topic.  They claim that you can earn thousands teaching from your own home, with the average Spanish teacher earning $1,859 a month teaching about 40 hours a week.

The company lets you set your own rates, with classes divided into two sections, one 25-minute trial lesson and a 50-minute private lesson.  You get full control as to how much you want to charge, but they do note that the average Spanish tutor charges $25 to $70 per hour.

To qualify, you must be fluent in Spanish and have a Spanish associated degree.  They also ask that you have experience in Spanish teaching.

As I write this, the company is looking to hire online Spanish teachers as well as 59 other languages.  If you meet the requirements are curious about the position, follow the link below.

italki

italki is one I have mentioned a few times, such as in my teach English online with no degree and make money as a college student posts.  In short, it’s an app designed to help teach you any language via a qualified teacher.  Most of the companies I’m about to mention often use Skype and Zoom, but italki is designed to be used on your phone, making for a good choice if you don’t have access and/or don’t want to use your laptop/desktop.

The platform has more than 10,000 teachers and they are always looking to add more.  If you’re interested, they first ask that you understand the application process.  During this process, they do note that applicants with higher qualifications and work experience will be accepted.  At a minimum, be prepared to have experience and at least a bachelor’s degree to get accepted, however, a degree is not required.  Certifications can be considered as well.

The company has a very in-depth FAQ for incoming teachers, so I recommend you start there to see what they expect of you as a teacher.

Preply

Preply is an education platform that offers 1-on-1 lessons for any budget.  It’s a company that focuses solely on languages.

As a Preply tutor, it is said that the most popular tutors earn up to $550 a week.  Of course, this could much higher (or lower), dependent on how much you work.  Their platform lets you apply to offers whenever a student requests one as well as offers opportunities as your profile will show up in a search whenever a potential student looks for someone like you.  The work seems to be never-ending, so it will greatly depend on how much you work.

Like the many platforms I mention, Preply lets you work whenever you want and you can even set your hourly rate.  It’s very flexible. All earnings are completed on the platform to prevent any fraud.

If interested, they do ask that you have teaching experience and that you follow the profile requirements so that you’re approved the first time.  After you fill out your application, you can expect to hear back in five business days.  Once your profile is live, you can wait for students to contact you and/or you can check the job boards to see if there are any students you can help.

TakeLessons

TakeLessons offers a variety of subjects, including teaching Spanish to other students.  On this platform, you will be asked to create a professional profile that shows off your skills and experience so that students can find you and hire if you meet their wants/needs.  In short, you will want to sell yourself so that students want to click on your profile and book you based on your experience.

When a student finds you in their search, they will reach out to you to ask questions and/or book a session.  According to the company’s official site, they do the “heavy lifting” to help deliver fully paid students to you.  After you create a profile, students can search for you immediately, and you will be notified any time you receive an inquiry from an interested student.

As a TakeLessons teacher, you will have 100% flexibility, where you can enjoy being your own boss and even set your own prices.  All you need to do is teach as the company does everything for you, including the billing process.

To join, you need to fill out your profile, complete a background check and pay a $19.95 onboarding fee.

Varsity Tutors

Varsity Tutors is a live learning platform that connects more than 18,000 private tutors. Much like TakeLessons and a few others, they offer tutoring for just about any subject, including online Spanish lessons.

The cool thing about this platform is that they offer a “live tutoring” option, wherein you can tutor students immediately without the need of an appointment.  You can also tutor in person if you don’t like the idea of being online.  It’s up to you.

To become a tutor, the company notes that it only takes three minutes to complete your application. You will be asked basic personal information as well as which subjects you’re comfortable tutoring.  At this time, you will also need to provide your educational background, your test scores from the past (ACT, GRE, etc) as well as note any experience you may have.  Based on this information, they will invite you to a video interview if they feel you’re a fit for the platform.  You can start this video interview immediately since you’re just asked to answer some recorded questions.

Varsity Tutors offers a flexible schedule, flexible location and a large client base to keep you busy.

Verbalplanet

Verbalplanet is said to be an easy and effective way to work online and connect with students who want to learn Spanish.

As a teacher, much like the other platforms mentioned, you can set your own hours as well as your own rates.  It’s 100% free to use and you can keep everything you earn as the company takes out no commission.  That’s a huge plus!

The company uses Skype and you would teach students on a one-on-one basis.  For more information, you can apply as a tutor via the link below.   Create a profile, let them know a bit about yourself and wait for the approval.

Verbling

Verbling is an online learn platform that connects you with students via a video chat.  Unlike a lot of companies I mentioned here, Verbling only focuses on learning a new language.

If you want to apply as a teacher, you will be asked to apply online.  Before you do, however, let it be known that there are qualifications to consider.  According to the FAQ, this includes having teaching experience, a formal teaching certificate is preferred and you must have a good command of the language you’re looking to speak.  If you meet every qualification, you should hear back in about two weeks.

As a teacher with Verbling, you can set your own hourly rates, work from anywhere, and teach anytime you choose as you can adjust calendar to your preferences. The average hourly rate seems to be in the $15 to $25 range.

Wyzant

Wyzant is another popular online tutoring company and operates similarly to that of AmazingTalker and TakeLessons.  They claim that the average tutor receives at least two tutoring job opportunities every week.  The company does aggressively advertise on Google, so this may mean more eyeballs on your profile page if you were to sign up.

To get started on the platform, you can select your students as well as set your own rate.  The company allows you to find the best fit based on your location and time schedule, either in person or online.  It offers great flexibility, so you get to choose what works best for you.  You will have to create a profile, again, that’s designed to sell yourself.  Here, you will include everything from your qualifications to your experience so that students can connect with you if they feel you’re a fit for what they need.

Fill out an online application via the link below and a staff member will get back to you, usually with 24 hours, with more information.  Listing your services is 100% free and they don’t accept any premium listing payments, making for a fair and unbiased marketplace.  You do not need to be a certified teacher to apply.

Don’t Forget to Check Out Indeed

The companies I mentioned above are more of your well-known online tutoring companies that often hire Spanish teachers online.  However, it doesn’t mean that these are your only options.

What you’re going to find is that job search portals, such as Indeed, can often yield hundreds, sometimes even more than 1,000+ jobs where you can teach Spanish online.  For instance, when I was writing this, there were more than 1,025+ online Spanish tutoring jobs, all of which were remote positions.

Be sure to teach for specific keywords, such as “online Spanish teacher,” plus your zip code to see what the results may yield.  You may find that there are some local tutoring companies/schools that want to hire you, but they want you to live locally.

Create Your Own Course

If you don’t like the ideas I have mentioned, then consider creating your own course.  It will take more work in terms of marketing, etc, but it could be a fantastic passive income opportunity.

Platforms such as Udemy can help you create a course and then sell it to people who are interested in it.  Again, it can take a lot of work in the beginning since you will have to create the video lessons, worksheets, etc, but again, this hard work can pay off if you market yourself appropriately.

This technique can seem confusing at first, I know, so to ease your mind, I would highly recommend you check out the many how-to guides right on the Udemy website to help you succeed.

Consider Creating a YouTube Channel

Similar to that of Udemy, a YouTube channel could work in a similar way, only that you will make your money off your views rather than selling your content.  Nonetheless, this will take a lot of effort as well, but it could provide you with a very nice passive income.  You could provide the same content, but you will have to put it up for free in hopes people will watch and share it so that you earn money from your advertising views.

If you go this route, you can plan on making about $1 to $10+ per 1,000 views.  It’s hard to say as there are many metrics involved, but this seems to be the industry standard, such as how much your viewers engage with your content and how long they watch an ad.

YouTube stars do make millions, so it’s not like there’s no money here.  While it could be a tough road to a million dollars a year, it isn’t unheard of to make $5,000+ a year as a side hustle.

To start making money on YouTube, the platform itself has a ton of free videos to get you started.  I recommend you simply start there and search for “making money on YouTube” to see where the highest viewed videos take you.

Try Out Fiverr

Fiverr is a freelancer paradise.  If you can do it online, you can sell your services here, yes, including giving Spanish lessons.

I’m not sure how many people may go directly to Fiverr to learn Spanish online, but it could be worth a shot.  When I took a look, I saw about 30+ providers, which tells me there’s not a lot of competition.  However, there may not be demand.  Nonetheless, it doesn’t hurt to put up a listing to see if anyone wants to sign up.  It’s free after all.

Keep in mind that even though it’s “Fiverr,” you can sell your services for any price you feel fits.  Be sure to check out the many free Fiverr tutorials on YouTube to see how you can succeed on the platform.

Final Thoughts

If you want to teach Spanish online, there are a lot of options, as you can see.  In most cases, you will have to create a profile and then market yourself, so don’t expect work right away.  While this can be discouraging at first, it can pay off handsomely if you have the right experience and a profile that sells yourself.  It takes time.

Whether you’re a teacher with 20+ years experience or just starting out, there is an option, I promise!  For now, I recommend that you bookmark some of your favorites and start the application process.  Seeing it’s free to join almost every platform mentioned, I would create a profile and then see which one works best for you in terms of students contacting you.  You can copy and paste your profile to every site if you want to save yourself some time.  Just remember that all platforms have different requirements, so you may not get approved for all.

As always, I leave the podium open to you.
