UserTesting.com is a 100% legitimate company that pays you $10 per test.   All you need to do is follow the prompts and speak your thoughts aloud using your computer’s microphone.  And, as long as you receive good ratings after you complete your test, the company will continue to send you jobs as long as you pass the screening tests.

I have mentioned it a few times, particularly in my become a beta tester and how to make quick money in one day posts, and I figured it was time to review it in detail to see if it’s worth the hype.

If you’re a fan of the popular subreddit, Beer Money, you will often find them recommending it as a way to earn $100+ a month on the side, sometimes much  more.  In fact, in some monthly income reports Redditors post, many earn $100 to $500+, making it one of the better options out there.

I have been using UserTesting.com for a few months now, and I figured it was time to let you know how the platform works as well as what you should expect as a UserTesting.com tester.

UserTesting.com Website Review

If you like the idea of browsing a website/app on your computer screen and speaking your thoughts as you do so, then you may find it to be a fantastic way to earn $100, $200 or even $500+ per month.  Like anything, it greatly depends on how often you log in as well as how many tests you get.   It’s not hard to earn $100 a month, trust me on this one.

Like surveys, UserTesting.com works in a similar way, only that you will speak your thoughts, rather than type them out, and best of all, they pay much, much more than the average survey does.  From looking at a website to playing around with an app, most tests last about 20 minutes and will always pay you a flat $10 via PayPal.

In this review, I will talk about how to join, what the sign-up process is like as well as how the entire system works.  At the end, I will talk about both the pros and cons as well as what I think of it.

As always, my reviews are 100% honest, and I would never recommend something I wouldn’t sign up for.

What is UserTesting.com?

UserTesting.com is based in San Francisco, California, and was founded in 2017.

Known as a “usability customer experience testing platform,” it was designed to help companies receive on-demand feedback on its product and services via a specific market.  According to the official FAQ, it can help a platform gain rapid feedback on almost any experience you can think of, from websites and mobile apps to even real-world experiences. With this feedback, companies can help identify paint points, understand what customers are thinking as well as validate design decisions before going live.

As I write this, UserTesting.com is one of the world’s largest test platforms, working with 59 of 100 of the largest e-commerce companies in North America, including Facebook, Apple, Microsoft, eBay and so many more.

It’s a legitimate organization, so there’s no worry there.

But, the question is, like all of my reviews, is if it’s worth joining.  We shall see.

How to Sign Up

To sign up, you will want to look for the “Get Paid to Test” link on the desktop version of the site.  It will look something like this…

In clicking on this, it will direct you to the sign-up page, wherein you will enter your email address to sign up.  Before you do so, however, they ask that you read and agree with the Terms of Use and the Privacy Policy before proceeding.  In some cases, you may not be able to sign up as they won’t be taking participants at the moment.  If this is the case, you will see a message stating so.  In this case, keep checking back daily as they open up slots on occasions.

To qualify, you must have a PC or Mac, a microphone as well as an internet connection.  If you plan on doing the mobile tests, then you will need an iPhone, iPad and/or Android phone.  You must also be 18+ years old and be able to speak your thoughts aloud in English.  That’s it.  It’s not much, and you can sign up right away.

At this moment, the company is accepting testers from a variety of countries, including India, Israel, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, United Arab Emirates, Australia, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam, Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, UK, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Mexico, Peru, United States and Canada.

Take a Sample Test to Get Accepted

Once you enter your email address, you will have to confirm your email to finish the application process.

To complete the process, UserTesting will first want to learn about the program as well as what’s expected of you via YouTube videos.  In this video, they basically talk about what a good tester sounds like to them.  As long as you think out loud, follow the instructions and continue to talk throughout the test, you shouldn’t have a problem making money.  You can skip the tutorials if you so choose, but I would recommend you check it out to ensure you succeed on the platform.

After you view the videos, UserTesting will ask you to download the UserTesting software as well as make sure you have an external microphone plugged in.  During this time, you will have to submit a sample test for approval, and you will not be able to proceed until they approve your test.

What happens during the sample test?

After you download the software, you will need to open it to start your test.  Again, make sure your microphone is connected as you will need it to complete the test.

When you open, the software will present you with a task, where you will need to speak about it, giving your feedback and so forth.  I’m not sure if all tasks are different, but it will walk you through as to what’s expected of you.  For example, I had to find something on a web page as well as find information on that said page.

In the end, you will then have to write out your comments as well as feedback to complete your test.   This feedback will include how easy the task was and if you had any problems during the test.  You could also offer your own personal feedback.

Once complete, you will be prompted with the following:

How long does it take to get approved?

From my personal experience, it took about two days, but sometimes it can be a pinch shorter or even longer.  Nonetheless, it won’t be instant, and you may not hear back for a few days.  As you can see in the screenshot above, you should expect to hear from them in a “few days.”

If you do get approved, you will receive an email telling you so.

In this case, you can create an account so that you can access your dashboard to start making some cash.

Your Dashboard

If approved, congratulations.  You can now create your own account, most of which include adding your PayPal address as well as setting up a password.  Just like the survey sites, you will also need to fill out a screener profile, such as which social media platforms you’re connected to as well as what devices you have.  You will also need to let them know about your work as well as the industry you work in.  That way, they know which tests they can send you as well as the ones you qualify for.

Don’t be discouraged if you don’t see a test right away as it can take some time to do so.  When I signed up, as you can see, I had no tests available, but this will change over the next day or so.  Like the many research companies I have mentioned in the past, the number of tests you receive will greatly depend on your profile.  Some may receive a ton of opportunities, whereas some may receive nothing at all.

Screeners and Available Tests

If a test were to pop up, you will be notified via email, but the thing about UserTesting is that not all tests are paid as you may need to complete a survey screener to see if you qualify.

For example, the very next day, I received a survey to see if I qualified for an ongoing tester panel.  These tests are unpaid, but they are usually a few questions long and don’t take more than five minutes to complete.

You won’t get an answer right away; rather, you will get a “thank you” message, letting you know that they received the results.  In this case, you will have to wait to see if you qualify.  In the case you do, then the test will pop up on your dashboard.

How many tests will I get?

On average, plan on getting a few survey screeners every day, but the number of surveys you get will depend on your profile and how good you are in the eyes of the company.  Seeing that some people make more than $500+ a month, it could be possible to receive as many as 50 in a month.

In the end, plan on receiving about a few invites a day and maybe 10-50+ tests you can complete in a month.  You will receive an email notifying you about any testing opportunities, and according to the company, tests are posted daily.

Again, it’s hard to give a definite answer as we will all have different results.

How much will I make?

As mentioned in the introduction, UserTesting.com pays a flat $10 for every completed test.  They do have real-time conversations, which can pay $60.  These tend to be rare, however.

Payments are sent out daily for tests completed seven days earlier.

What Others Are Saying

In this section, I always like to comb the internet and see what others are saying.  I do this in every review I write.

Listed below are both the pros and cons found online, all of which came from multiple third-party review websites.  Even the best website/opportunity has negativity, so take it as you will.

The Pros

Very easy to set up and work with.

The tests can add up, helping you earn $100-$500+ a month with ease.

100% legitimate company.

Fun to do and requires minimal writing.  To some, it’s much better than surveys.

The Cons

Even though the company accepts many countries, only some countries see more tests than others.

It isn’t always available to new members.

For some, it can take a while to qualify.  I have read reports that some take 30-40 surveys before getting their first opportunity.  Be prepared to take a lot of screeners to get your first test.  This seemed to be the biggest complaint.

Customer service can be slow to respond.

Only pays via PayPal (not a con to everyone, though).

Technical errors seem to be common.

Final Thoughts

9/10UserTesting.com is a fantastic way to make money online.  It’s one of the highest-rated gigs on money-making websites/forums and can easily pay $100+, sometimes much, much more.

As long as you don’t mind speaking into a microphone and filling out a short survey when done, then it’s one to consider.  Remember, each test will take 20 minutes to complete, so be sure to schedule accordingly.

It’s easy to sign up, the requirements are minimal and it’s offered in a ton of countries.

For now, at least download the software and take the sample test to see if you can get approved.  If so, partake in a test to see if it’s worth $10 to you.  If it is, keep on going; if not, then you can always delete your account.  Remember; you get to work whenever you please, even from your phone!
