Get Paid to Walk w/ Dick’s Sporting Goods (Move App Review)

If you’re a fan of Dick’s Sporting Goods, did you know that you can earn bonus points just for walking with their official app?

All you have to is connect your fitness tracker and have a Dick’s Sporting Goods “ScoreCard” account.  And, if you don’t, it’s 100% free to join.  Then, after your account is confirmed and your fitness tracker is synced, you will earn for every step you take.

In today’s review, let’s take a look at how the “move” portion of the app works and how much you can expect to make.

How the Card Works

The first thing you’re going to want to do is download the official Dick’s Sporting Goods app and sign up for a Score Card.  You will need an account so that it can add points to your account.

Now, before you get excited about this app, I want to let you know a few things first.  For one, you will only be able to use your credits at a Dick’s Sporting Goods store, so if that’s a turn off, you will not want to continue.  Your points can’t be used for anything else.  Just a simple credit for the store.

Aside from walking, the card is mainly used for those who spend a lot of money at the store.  For instance, for every $1 you spend in store, you will get one point.  And, for every 300 points you get, you will be able to cash out for a $10 gift card reward.    Simply put, every $300 will be $10 in rewards.

Now, if you spend more than $500+ per year at the retailer, then you can earn a $10 reward annually on top of that and even pick a “3x” day where you can earn three times the points when you shop.

I want to mention this because most of your points will be made when you spend money in the store, not while walking.

How Move Works

If you want to strictly earn points with the Move app while walking, then it’s fairly easy to comprehend.

To earn three points per day, you will have to do one of the following:

  • walk at least 10,000 steps daily OR
  • reach at least 3 miles OR
  • complete at least 30 minutes of fitness activity

As long as you have your fitness tracker connected, you will earn the points as long as you meet one of the three.

To connect, you will have to verify through the app.  If you click on your MOVE daily activity screen, you will be able to check your settings to ensure the tracker is connected.  You can also go to your portal to see if it’s synced as well.

Your points are typically added a few hours after you achieve your goal, but a delay, up to 24 hours, can sometimes be seen.  The support seems to be okay if you’re having trouble with your points.

How Much Can I Earn?

As noted, you will need at least 300 points to earn $10 in Dick’s Sporting Goods credit.

So, that means that you would have to complete one of those tasks for 100 days straight to earn $10.

Is that great?

I’d say it’s on par with most walking apps since most don’t pay you all that much.  However, if you spend a few dollars here and there at the retailer, then you could earn much fast.

Ultimately, you can only decide if it’s worth it for you.

Final Thoughts

In the end, if you feel that three points per day are worth it to you and you understand it would take three+ months to earn $10 in Dick’s Sporting Goods credit alone just by moving, then sure, why not download it?   You just need to make sure you walk at least 10,000 steps or three miles.  That’s a lot of work right there, but good work for that matter.

The app is legitimate and will pay out, but you just won’t make as much as you think.  Just picture it as a way to supplement your points if you already have the card.  I would only recommend it to those who already shop at Dick’s Sporting Goods and want to earn more points.  It can be okay in that regard.

That’s going to do it for now.
