How to Become a Secret Shopper at Walmart

I have talked about becoming a secret shopper so many times on this blog, but usually, the posts are quite vague.  I just talk about the industries and rarely do I talk about a particular retailer.

Well, that’s going to change in today’s post.

Today, I’m going to talk about how you can become a secret shopper at Walmart.  And, if you’re just on this post for the curiosity factor, let me explain what a secret shopper is really quick.

In short, it will be your duty to shop undercover, which, in this case, would be at a Walmart.  You will be asked to perform a variety of activities, from checking the bathroom cleanliness to talking with an associate to see how friendly they are.  The jobs are endless, but in the end, you need to remain “secret” as no one can know about you.  Just think about it; if they did, they would act differently so that they could score higher.  Once the job completes, it will then be your job to go back to the app/website and create your report.  It’s very simple, and it can be a decent side hustle.

First, Know of the Scams

First, be forewarned about the Walmart secret shopper scams as there are a lot of them out there.  In fact, there are so many in the mystery shopping field.  You can be assured that here I never talk about scams nor will I push anything that will take advantage of you.  I just don’t believe in putting the dollar over being informative.

Anyways, the official Walmart website notes that they don’t hire associates or utilize these types of services, however, this is kind of false as I know of some services that work at Walmart stores.  I will explain later.

But, to know of the scams, be on the look out for any mail, text or emails that entice you to sign up as a mystery shopper.  If you didn’t go out looking for this opportunity and one that seems too good to be true comes your way, it’s more than likely a scam, so I recommend you skip on it.  Many times, as Walmart notes, they will send you a fake check, saying that it’s for your “employment.”  You go to cash it, you forward them money, and the rest is history.  Your bank account is now out hundreds, maybe thousands of dollars.

You can read more about this scam in depth on the Walmart site, but basically, never open unsolicited emails, NEVER deposit a check from a mystery shopping company you didn’t work with, and don’t click on an ad that sounds too good to be true.  There’s a lot of “clickbait” out there and you have to be careful.

How to Become a Secret Shopper at Walmart

NOTE:  These options are not directly affiliated with Walmart.  Rather, consider it as a way to secret shop in Walmart since many brands work with the retailer.

Presto Shopper

I highly recommend you check out the Presto Shopper app as it will show you a ton of mystery shopping jobs in your area as well as who’s offering them.  The great thing is that you can check them out right now without even registering.

If it’s Walmart you’re looking for, scroll the map until you know of a Walmart location and see if anything is available.  If so, click on the link to see what the job entails, and if sounds like something of interest, you can reach out to the mystery shopping company offering the job.

Presto Shopper is 100% legitimate and has a TON of jobs available at any given moment.

Field Agent

The Field Agent app is one I have mentioned plenty of time.  It’s an app you can download and start working almost immediately.  From taking pictures of a store shelf to testing new products, a lot of the jobs I have seen in the past dealt with Walmart.

For example, in the past, I was asked to check out a recycling pallet on the side of the store.  Once I did, I was then asked to report back to the app with pictures and a brief description as to what I witnessed.  I almost always see Walmart jobs available here, but of course, your results could vary.

Remember, with this app, you’re usually working with the brands that sell at Walmart, but on occasions, I did see jobs coming from Walmart directly.  The app is 100% free to download.

Gig Walk

Gig Walk is another app that works just like Field Agent.  You will often work with brands that have items inside the store, and they will ask for pictures, etc.  The nice thing is that it’s an app, so you can log in whenever you please and accept the job on the spot.

If you want to shop at Walmart or find yourself there often, it’s one to download as I find Walmart jobs pop up quite a bit just like the Field Agent app.  Just open the app whenever you’re in the store, and if you see a job of interest, accept it and then follow the prompts to get paid.

I did write about the app in depth in the past, so I recommend you check it out to see how it works in detail.

Easy Shift

Easy Shift is another app I have reviewed as well as covered on my YouTube channel.  It’s not as popular as the other two, but I have seen Walmart jobs on occasions.  Remember, you’re not always working with Walmart; rather, you’re working for the brands inside Walmart.

Let me give you a quick example.

One time, I was asked to find a specific brand of sauce on the shelves.  When I did, I had to take about five pictures and then upload them to the app.  After, I answered a few simple yes/no questions and I got paid.

Like the few options mentioned here, I was paid about $7~ for my time, which wasn’t too bad as the job only took me about five minutes.

Final Thoughts

Today, Walmart doesn’t really offer secret shopper positions as I believe most of it is in-house.  However, it doesn’t mean you can’t secret shop there as so many brands need your help.  This is where these opportunities can come into the picture.

If you do take advantage, plan on making anywhere from $5 to $10~ per job, and remember, since you’re an independent contractor, you get to work whenever you please.  Mystery shopping is never meant as a full/part-time replacement income.  Rather, it’s a way to make money on the side.

That does it for now.

As always, check out the many honest money-making/saving articles on the site as well as my YouTube channel.  I will continue to add as much as I can.  Thanks for visiting.
