Recently, I wrote about the few ways you can become a secret shopper at Walmart. In short, your options are limited, but there are ways to shop at Walmart and get paid in a way.
Today, I wanted to talk about another retailer people often research for mystery shopping purposes — Target.
If you want to shop as a mystery shopper with Target, it is doable, but like Walmart, your options are limited. In today’s post, I want to talk about how you can become a secret shopper with Target as well as the few reputable companies that are hiring right now.
A Word of Warning
Unfortunately, Target doesn’t outsource many mystery shopping jobs anymore. In fact, it’s quite rare; however, it doesn’t mean you can’t work inside of a Target as a secret shopper and get paid as there are a lot of brands that need your help. While you won’t be shopping with Target per se, you will be shopping inside of a Target if that makes sense.
Let me give you a quick example.
Just a few weeks ago I was asked to visit a local Target and take a few pictures of a certain beverage and then answer a few questions. This job dealt more with that beverage company, but I had to visit Target in order to complete it. The lesson here is that if you’re visiting Target, there are mystery shopping jobs available, you just need to know where to look.
Researching online, I did find a small forum where Target employees talked amongst themselves, and what I found is that the retailer often uses internal people to “spy” on the company. However, some jobs were outsourced, such as shoppers being asked to apply for the Red Card, but this had to deal with the issuing bank, not Target.
The Scams
And, one more thing…
Be forewarned that there are a lot of scams out there, particularly ones that state you can be a secret shopper with Target and get paid hundreds of dollars. Any phone call or email offering a gift card in exchange for mystery shopping is a scam. Target will never reach out to you for mystery shopping opportunities, even if you’re part of a Target mailing list.
If you receive anything of that nature, simply ignore it as you will have to find the opportunity, not have it come to you.
How to Become a Secret Shopper With Target
Presto Shopper
The first website I recommend for any secret shopper is Presto Shopper. It’s a free resource you can use, and it gives you an insight as to which secret shopping jobs are available in your area. It works with multiple mystery shopping companies and compiles the jobs in an easy-to-read map The nice thing is that you don’t have to register to view the jobs, but if you want to accept one, then you will need to apply to the mystery shopping company offering it.
So, what you’re going to want to do is open up the map (I linked to it below) and then scroll to a Target location. If you see an icon over the store, click on it and then see what kind of job it is. And, if it sounds like something of interest, click on it and see which mystery shopping company is offering it. If you’re already part of that mystery shopping company, apply for the job and complete it, but if not, you can apply on the company’s website.
Now, you may not find a Target job, and that’s expected most of the time, but it’s a fun way to find hundreds of jobs in your area that can pay anywhere from $5 to $50+.

Field Agent
Field Agent is a mystery shopping app that I use all of the time, and I see Target jobs quite a bit on here. As mentioned prior here, you’re not working with Target. Instead, what you’re going to find is that there are a lot of brands that need your help, from buying an item to taking a picture of a display case. Very rarely will you see Target asking you to analyze an associate. That won’t happen.
Joining Field Agent is 100% free and you can start working immediately. Best of all, the jobs can pay anywhere from $5 to more than $20+ per task. Just make sure you read the directions and you shouldn’t have a problem getting approved.

Gig Walk
Gig Walk is just like Field Agent in that it’s an app where you can find a myriad of mystery shopping jobs, including those found at Target. It’s as easy as opening the app, browsing the jobs in your area, and then accepting the job that’s interesting to you. Everything you need to know about the job is given to you before you accept it. Again, you won’t find jobs that directly deal with Target, but you can find many brands that need you to go there and complete a task.
I have written a review on this app if you want to learn more about how it works. Remember, there will be many more jobs on this app than just Target, so if you’re interested in shopping undercover, it’s one to consider.

Easy Shift
Easy Shift is another one like the two mentioned prior. Just sign up, look at the local jobs and accept the ones that make sense to you. It’s a very easy app to use and you can check out an in-depth review I have written in the past.
Most of the jobs here pay about $5 to $15+ and you will know everything you need to know before you accept your assignment. And, again, since you’re an independent contractor with all of these options, you can choose to work whichever job you’re comfortable with.

Final Thoughts
Like Walmart, it isn’t entirely possible to secret shop with Target. Instead, what you will want to focus on is how you can shop inside of Target and get paid. This is where these apps and websites can come into the picture. As long as you don’t expect to get rich, it can be a nice little side hustle that pays you a few dollars per task. If you’re aggressive enough, $500 a month is very doable.
For now, check out the reputable apps I mentioned. They are free to join, they are honest, and they can get you paid. As always, I’m 100% honest.
That does it for now.
